New Carvin MB15 extension cab

Sign in to disble this ad
New product from Carvin. Build to be an extension to their MB15 micro amps/combos.
With it the combo will be pushing out 250w, or 125w into each cab. Good price.

Additional info: WinISD shows that cab+driver combination down 3dB at 75, down 6 at 65, down 8 at 60, down 9 at 55, down 12 at 50, down 15 at 42. It can be eq'd away, but at the expense of headroom of course. I assume they're using the PS15 driver, same as in the MB15.

Below 100 Hz in that box, the PS15 can take about 100 watts before it hits xmax. So, two handling 250 watts sounds reasonable. Aggressive bass settings probably won't tread into dangerous xlim territory (below 10 Hz in this case), based on my nonscientific testing: A moderate thump on all four strings with the palm of my hand with the bass control up full and my MB15 amp my MB15's volume and bass controls both up full produced feline room evacuation but almost no cone movement.

Interesting that they flipped the cab so the drivers would be close to each other.

Thinking of hopping on this one. It would mean I could cram 250 watts and a pair of fifteens and my bass into my little Totoya truck's extended cab interior, with no need for a trailer or cap.

Thanks for the alert, Jeff.

(But -- God help me -- I think I might could be turning into a Micro Slut.)

Yeah I don’t think it’s a 15” cab for all but considering the price (269.00) and the portability, I’m sure it’s a good match for either the BX250 head or as an extension for one of the micro combos. My MB10 stacked on my Avatar SB112 sounds great and that’s quite a bit less speakerage (technical term) than the MB15 stacked on one of these. Go for it!! Seriously if I needed a whole new rig I would consider pairing up the MB15 with this extension. Flexibility, good sound and portability for little coin.

Something else to consider is their 112AG extension . A buddy of mine uses 2 of them with a SWR 550 and it sounds pretty good. They are ported unlike the MB series that are a sealed cab. And they are only $199.00 and are rated 300 watts.

Actually, the dimensions of the 112AG work perfectly with the MB12 Micro Bass amp. Interesting.

MB12: 18.5" high 12" deep 17" wide

112AG: : 19" high 12" deep 17" wide

I'm looking at this combo/cab arrangement as well.
Any reviews yet?

I've been using the 112AG for a couple of months with my BX500. Its good for a grab and go option, practice or small venues. I'm glad that I decided to pick this up when my BRX10.2 was in storage.

I wonder what a pair of the 115's would sound like with a peavey tour 700?

Like this. It won't deliver any meaningful bass without some serious arm twisting (and the associated downsides to that). Might want to read that entire thread.

I'd advise caution.

Any idea how their ported 12" cab mentioned above does with low end response?

Has anyone else had the opportunity to check this cab out as a standalone, portable solution for lower volume gigs (jazz trio)?

As long as this thread has come back to life, I'd like to ask this question too. I'm currently using an MB12 as a practice amp. I see that both the 112AG and the 115MB extension cabs are on sale at Carvin for $199 through Monday. I'm really more interested in low end response that simply more volume. Does anyone have any idea if the 112AG offers any advantage there?

I need a small cab for a jazz trio gig. I am considering a Carvin 115MB or the 112AG cab.

Someone help me make up my mind please. lol

Great deals right now. The MB10 combo is 279.00. The MB15 is 349.00, and the 3-way MB12 combo is 399.00. 200w each and 250w with an extension.
The BX1500 (dual 450w amps @ 4 ohms each) is selling for the stupid price of 499.00. The half and full stacks are also on sale.

Exactly my needs too. But there dosen't seem to be anyone out there using this 15" cab for this purpose. Yesterday (Cyber Monday) I just went ahead and ordered a GK 112MBX from Music123. Got a real good price...

Still interested in a "basic" 15" cab though...

I see the GK 112MBX costs a hundred bucks more than the Carvin 115MB.

Umm.

I am leaning towards the Carvin to match up with my BX500 head.

Not really. Yesterday, with 15% off, the GK totaled $254 (free shipping and no tax). The Carvin was $199 plus $25 shipping for a total of $224. For an extra $30 I go with the known item.
