So i always thought my Ampeg 810 cab was awesome. I was looking for a second one when I found a Fender pro 810 for $400. I went to the guys house to try it out. Kinda liked it. Took it home and fell in love with the thing. I hate horns so i turned the horn all the way off but it got me thinking. The specs on the thing are better than Ampeg 810's, the fender sounds better, and it has more features. They are the same dimensions even. How come more people don't play these and how come you can't find anything online about them. Is it a brand thing? I know the fender grill kinda made me cringe... but i decided if anyone says **** they can gfy. |

I almost got one, but it was damaged.
I still want one as I get tired off hauling 2 SWR 410's.
It would look cool under my Bassman 100 or 135 tube amp.
Ya alot of people want the Magnavox 810, I have played many times through the Ampeg 810 with my Bassman 135, and it's a dead box(no ports) and sucks up power, not to mention bass fundamental rolls off around 60-70 Hz. I play bass, not treble.
Do you feel that the Fender has a wider bandwidth? ie goes lower and higher? I gotta get me one!
Get a Fender Bassman 135 and rock on.
Peace and happiness to you in 2012. |

I put both of them next to each other and the tones i could get out of the fender were amazing compared to the Ampeg. I'm honestly surprised i don't see more of these. Ha, I was thinking about buying a fender bassman 300 pro to stick on top of it. I loved the Sunn version of the same head. Fender just released the new super bassman and the bassman 100t also. I love my SWR SM-500 and SM 900 so much though. I could never get rid of them. |

BTW, Magnavox sold Ampeg in 1980. Other than that, enjoy the new cab!

If it's your personal taste to ported cabinets to sealed cabinets I guess you found your tonal nirvana. Enjoy ...and those new Fender heads might be a perfect match to that 810 cabinet.

The small ports they use are better than the 810 cabs with big ports imo. Just gotta remember who their copying |

I wouldn't mind trying one if I found one. Then again, if I had I would've dumped two paragraphs of 810 Pro vs vintage Ampeg cab comparison. |

I had the same experience with a ported Carvin 810, I really liked how it sounded at home, but when pushed at volume in a loud band mix onstage it was absolutely horrendous.
Not diss-ing your Fender, just make sure to put it through its paces before you profess never-ending love for it!

I've always gotten compliments on the sound since day one and yea I'm surprised you don't see many out there. I've kind of chalked it up to Fender being a day late and a dollar short when they were released. I use it with a Fender 300, TB-600 and a Hiwatt head. Love the sound and yes it's a different animal that the Ampeg. For most of the 60's and 70's work I need that "fat" sound on stage. Ironically, for studio work I'll use the Ampeg B15N to get that sound.
Have fun with the new cab!

I'm competing against two Marshall Plexis and a drummer who beats his drums about as hard as i beat my mexican girlfriend... (my mim fender) The thing just sounds creamy to me. I have only had one live experience with it so far and it was a good one. |

That combo and the Spector B string make someone who's eaten a car battery size block of cheese soil themselves on the spot.

I had an 810e for a while before my Mesa PH412 and it handled the low B of my Spector pretty well, at least in a band mix. My Mesa can handle way more bass frequencies, but they're the ones I don't use on stage anyway. I think the 810e's are great cabs, I just prefer the Mesa's for the build quality and ease of transportation.
Here's a pic of the two cabs side by side when I still had them: |

Those low notes are heard way more from the 2nd harmonic anyway, so I don't need all that low end. Maybe once you start getting down to G it wouldn't be a bad idea to go lower, but for tuning to B or A I like it. YMMV, as the kids say.

What low B? That's a 4 string bass. |

| | | | in a live situation most of the times you don't really want that lows, it f*** your mix, and you can't hear yourself clearly
