Are there differences? I am looking for a 6x10 and am patient, so I want to look the best I can get.
Thanks!

Not sure one is better than the other, but I sure loved my series III early version Goliath sr with the black hammered grill. Used, you can get pretty amazing deals on older Goliath seniors. Might be very worth it.
Loved the tone & power. Great cab. Too big & heavy for me for regular gigging. Liked the tone better than the 8x10 Megoliath.

I am looking for a sealed 6x10, as I've recently made the move to an all tube ampeg head, but I'll be damned if that SWR isn't a total killer. She's been around the country with me and has been nothing but fantastic...and loud!

It seems to me that many of the times I see a used SWR Goliath cab, if it's old, it either has new drivers or recones at some point in the past. Has anyone else noticed that? Seems to be plenty of threads here on TB on replacement SWR speakers. More so than other brands....
I love the sound of the PAS drivers though.... very efficient. |

To me it has that SWR magic sweet spot at a more moderate volume. SWR cabs have a presence that's felt and a nice "sizzle" when you push them to just the right point. +1 on the comment that the tone is better than both of my previous Megoliaths. Just my opinion of course. |

| | | | Tried a new Goliath Sr in the Rock Shop (NZ) a couple of year s ago under an SWR 750x and I think it's my favourite sounding stack so far.
But yeah shying away from something that big now: just played a gig with an Ashdown MAG 600 thru MAG 2x10 and 1x15 cabs and ended up ditching the whole setup and went back to the WorkingPro 12 (which was louder and sounded at least 5 times better at a conservative estimate).
So after that, saying "no" to big heavy cabs (although the Goliath Sr would eat the Ashdown rig for breakfast).
Liking the idea of the Golight cabs (big but light), although someone was saying on here that the price of neodymium is going up.

Both are newer versions. I do have an original Goliath cab that I have had to re-cone the speakers. I absolutely recommend the Golith Sr as long as you have an amp with enough power to push them. My opinion only. |

As far as speakers "wearing out", the SWR vintage webpage shows that the series III used a stouter driver than earlier versions. SWR® - STEP UP!™
Contrary to some beliefs, SWR's quality (at least in speaker cabs) didn't drop overnight after the sale to Fender. I own two GIIIs, and have been happy ('cept for the weight!).
