Hi Today:
I'm new to this Board.. However, I am a user-and-member of several Audio related Boards.. I am a Home Studio Operator and I am retired from Servicing Audio Equipment for Touring Musicians and Maintaining Studio related Audio Equipment.. as far back as the early-to-mid '60's..

Just some backround..

Anyway, I have recently acquired an Ampeg B15N Portaflex '74 Bass Amp.. I am a Tube Amp Fanatic.. .. So bare with me..

I document all the amps that I am recently restoring..

I just don't know which part of this huge Message Board I would most comfortably fit..

Maybe, someone can direct me to the part -and - department of of this forum I should go to..

Bill..

Welcome.

I imagine that you could set up shop here in AMPS.

Welcome to TB!

You will likely drink lots of coffee, and suffer from occasional GAS.

Try the features "New Posts & Search" near the top of your screen. Use "Thread Tools >Subscribe" when you find a topic you like. Use "Quick Links" to revisit your "Subscribed" threads, daily.
You'll smile when reading NEW thread titles almost daily about old topics discussed ad nauseam.

Hold onto your sense of humor since we have plenty of newer players, and a large numbers of people that would rather ask an age old question vs. using the SEARCH feature for topics that has been covered on hundreds of threads in the TB archives.

Hi Again Gents:
I thought I might be able to get replies sent to my E-Mail In Box.. However, I didn't see any showing up, so, I came back to see if there were SND sure enough.. Thanks you for the welcome and all..

I know there are some pretty knowledgeable Bass and Amp Guys hanging out here..

This is the amp I attempting to restore..

unless you gents can offer a place better.. I've learned that Ampeg does not support parts of any amps that are now discontinued.. Is that correct??

I assume it's a '74.. because I saw a date on the bottom plate schematic..

However, all the information I can find on the chassis and cabinet looks like this..

Ampeg Portaflex B15N Bass Amp
Ampeg Manufacturer Number ASB15N
Model Number 141
Serial Number 72938
Chassis Bottom Plate Number 732326-1
Schematic Info 591722
Date 1/22/74
(B) 5922-1
(C) 591722-2

If I'm posting this in the wrong place, just point me to a topic .. and.... I can only learn..

I've maintained this amp over the years but for just a few times when the owner was out of town and on-the-road..

Here's all the Photos I have in the Photo Blog, so far..
http://entertainment.webshots.com/al...YiWUpM?start=0

Hopefully, after Christmas I'll have it ready to track, in the studio.. We'll see.. I am ordering parts from this place http://www.fliptops.net/

Anyway, is there a way to get replies sent to my E-Mail Address??? It would be nice if I could con fig. that from this Board..

Thank you for your time to browse this topic..

Bill..

p.s. I'm trying my best not to ramble-on like I have .. already..

p.s. Again.. I think I have Fixed the E-Mail notifications, thing..

OoHh.. I hope to learn how this version of Board works..

Really don't have much to say about your specific query, woxnerw, but Welcome To TalkBass. I really like the part of the world you come from, as far as I have been able to determine from films, reading, and photos anyway. Hope to get up there some day.

Montana is pretty close to a pedal-down three day run from here.. You ain't no stranger to snow.. I'm hearing you got plenty of it over there, now.. Just keep it there.. I'll be happy with that..

Here's another one, we're waitin for parts for..

You can tell I'm movin right-on-in..

Bill..

nice! i see yours has the altec 421a upgrade speaker. ought to be super sweet when you get it done. and yes, fliptops is a great place to get parts. shopped there many times.

Official Ampeg Portaflex Club Part III: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough is the thread for the portaflex club on here where you can get a lot of info about them if you dig through the occasional silliness.

Thank you for the reply jimmyM:
As I browsed and googled I kept going back to that page.. I sent off some mail and got a reply from Bruce ??? I think.. Anyway, he said he'd be able to ship to my address.. I need to make up a parts order and maybe if I send it off I'll get some parts before the end of the year.. We'll see.. That Altec 421A speaker is so nice for the cabinet.. In my opinion, that is..

I'm not sure just yet what I'm gonna do for tubes.. I'm gonna fire it up first just to have a listen.. I think I'm gonna get the CAP Kit from Bruce and take it from there.. If I need tubes I have a tube stash to try out.. and then if I need 6L6's I think I'll order them from Peavey.. I used to order Peavey Super 6's from Hartley.. That was years ago.. Well, back in the 'early '80's.. They appeared matched enough, right outta the boxes.. 6SL7's ??? We'll see.. I need a latch for the top I took the old casters off.. I don't think I'll put any on the rebuild.. It's gonna end up in the studio.. I'd like to modify it with a Balanced XLR output like the re-issue version.. I don't have a re-issue schematic of what that modification looks like..

Anyway, As-It-Goes....

Bill..

[edit] I forgot.. I'll get Bruce to add my parts order to your account.. O.K.??????

Welcome, too bad we dont have a section dedicated to tube powered amps here but until then dont be surprised if someone comes along and tries to save you from your apparent folly every time you state your preference for tube power...
