new gk 700rbII Bi amp question

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got this amp an there is the 1/4 " speaker output an the twist-lock out put,,,been reading the manual an I need a little help,,,,,,

can someone explain the bi-amp system?

I currently have the 1/4" hooked up to a 15"hartkey an a 2x10t swr, I also have a 18"swr(still trying to find the best combo)

the hartkey has the twist-lock in the back an also a 1/4" but both of the SWR's only have the 1/4"

should I get the twistlock cable an run it to my hartkey? I dont think I will be able to utilize the bi-amp system unless I get another twist-lock cab....or I may even need a GK CAB

any help or thoughts would be great

looks like I would need 2 GK HBA compatible speakers an 2 4wire twist cables to make this system work the way it is intended,,,,

really don't think I would like to buy a new set of speakers to give me this option,,,,,

The G-K bi-amp feature needs a G-K cab in order to perform as intended. Essentially, it is a fixed frequency crossover that sends freqs above 5000 Hz to the tweeter. I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Just run all speakers full range.

The twist lock connector is called a Speakon. Check the impedance of each of your cabs. The amp will not handle below 4 Ohms, so if all your cabs are 8 Ohms, you can use a combination of any two. My guess would be the 15 + 210 would probably produce the best sound, but be sure that both are 8 Ohms. If one cab is 4 Ohms, that will be the only cab you can use without damaging the amp.

Here is an older post where I describe G-K's bi-amp and "HMS" system. This may help you understand it a little better.
Opinions: GK Heads Biamped into GK Cabs
