New guy here, with a question!

Hey guys, first time posting here, I have a question for you, currently I'm using a Gallien Krueger Mb 150 E combo, which is awesome, but now I'm looking into buy a 4x10 cabinet (GK's 410MBX).

The combo's head has the option to switch off the internal speaker, and to plug it into a cabinet, my question here is it safe to plug the 410MBX?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!

Right next to the speaker output socket there should be a little blurb telling you the minimum impedance the output stage of the amp can handle. For many amps this figure is 4 ohms but you MUST find out what the figure is for your amp. Your 4x10 will be fine so long as its impedance is equal to or greater than the amp's minimum stated impedance.

My combo says 40o minimum, and 8o minimum with internal speaker on, there shouldn't be any problems right?

Well, what's the MBX cab? 4 or 8 ohms? If it's 4, unplug the 12" speaker from the combo before using it. And if it's 8...unplug the 12" speaker before using it.

I can hear you say "Wait! I shouldn't have to unplug the internal 12" speaker, because if the MBX is 8 ohms and the 12 is 8 ohms...that's 4 ohms and is meeting minimum spec on the amp!"

True! But unhelpful.

Would you like to drive your 410 cab with only the juice your 12" speaker can handle? Because that's what you'll be doing. Giving X watts to your 12" and the exact same number of watts to the 410. That's how these things work. You'll never get that 410 singing right, never see it live up to its volume output potential.

So unplug the 12". Drive the 4 or 8 ohm 410 cab by itself.

Also: I recently bought that very same cab, the 410 MBX, used for $199. Other people say it's not the greatest, but it's certainly doing the job for me. And it was so cheap, I couldn't say no. Good luck with it!

Thanks a lot for your answer man!

Yeah what I was planning to do was to unplug the speaker, and use the combo as a head for the 410, now that you are telling me that it can work without ruining anything, I will totally get that cabinet.
Thanks again!
