New guy needs help :D

Sign in to disble this ad
First of all hi everyone

Ok so I am about to buy a new bass and I will need a good amp as well

(current gear is not with me cause I left Greece recently, and bringing it here does not worth it...)

So I wanna buy a good amp about 300$ tops,
primarily for practice BUT I'm gonna wanna use it for band practicing as well eventually (but not gigs yet).

As far as the guitar is concerned
I am thinking about the ESP F-415FM
Or the Peavey Grind 5....

Please help because as far as amps go I have very few experience and I wanna get something that's fairly good...

Thanks!

When I got back into bass after a long vacation, I bought a Fender Rumble 60 ... This model is now discontinued but the Rumble 100/115 should be what you might want to look at ....
Fender Rumble 100 Bass Combo and more Bass Amplifiers at GuitarCenter.com.

Only ones I found were these:

Fender Rumble 75 75-Watt Bass Combo Tilt-Back Amplifier with Overdrive and 1 x 12-inch Speaker includes CD Aux Input and Headphone Output | Vancouver Montreal Toronto Canada

Fender Rumble 150 150-Watt Bass Combo Tilt-Back Amplifier with Overdrive and 1 x 15-inch Speaker plus Piezo Horn includes CD Aux Input and Headphone Output | Vancouver Montreal Toronto Canada

How about the 450w ampeg I posted above?

I see a couple of long afternoons at a local music store or two in your future.

Only you are going to know what you like, and you have pretty limited funds, so it's important you spend them on something that sounds good to you. And what's more fun than checking this stuff out for yourself?

Well only one near here is a place that coincidentally has the fender rumble 150, but doesn't have the ampeg one that I listed above, which intrigued me cause it's a 450w one for 400$...
That's whyI ask here cause I wanna have some opinions on brand names and from then on I'll start playin in shops
I only have used a vox 10w with 2x5" so far.
And a crappy harley benton bass guitar...
Now I'm going for better gear

for $300, i'd get a ba115. just my personal choice, though...you can find a few decent 100w combos for $300. but that would be my choice in that range.

I'll second Jimmy's suggestion, and add that it might also be worth looking in the Gallien Krueger line, some of the Hartkes, and the Line6 Studio 110 gets some votes around here. I'm not crazy about the Rumbles or the Ashdown, but some people dig them.

That's a few brand names to be getting on with, anyhow.

The BA115 IS an Ampeg, VeeSpade...

Ampeg*BA115 Bass Combo - Find the largest selection and guaranteed lowest prices at Musician's Friend.

I have an older version of one of these that I picked up used from a TBer, with 220 watts instead of 100, for something like $300 or $350. Sounds great and should fit your bill. But it does depend on what you want to sound like: Ampeg is kind of "old school," very heavy bottom end and not a lot of mids. Get to a music store and try a few amps out and see what kind of sound you like.

ya, some of them are made to sound that way when you put the knobs at noon. but the eq sections are always very versatile and you can give it a flatter eq if that's what you like.

Actually I was talking about the ampeg that I mentioned above (pf 210 fliptop),which I really like and is fairly cheap considering it delivers 450w,but cannot test out cause the shop I'm gonna order it from is far from here.

As I said I will go test before I buy but some of them I can't and I can't also find any videos to get some ideas.
I want a piece that delivers clear sound with no feedback, and as for the type of sound I will primarily be playing doom/stoner and a bit of blues, so I prefer a heavy bottom end, but I wanna have mids too...

True. But do you think that if you really want a strong set of mids you'll get more out of an Ampeg than a Hartke or GK? My impression has been no, but I'm pretty new to this.

The LA Music site has errors of classification: the PF210 is a cabinet, not a combo (for some reason, if you order their "bass combo" listing from low to high price, it gives you a bunch of strings to start...). It handles 450 watts, it doesn't "deliver" them in the sense that the head does. The flip-top gives you a place to put your head, it doesn't come with one built in. The equivalent combo is the BA300-210 (Ampeg BA300-210 300W RMS, dual 10" horn loaded combo with Tube preamp Bass Combo Amp), which is out of the price range you gave ($750) unless you can find a decent used one.

Wow you're right...
I feel stupid though cause it says "CABINET"...

Ok two last ones that interest me and cannot test...

re, the Ampeg tone - I had a BA210 for a couple of years; between its three-band EQ and the 'style' switch (I think that's what it was called), I was able to get a number of basically un-Ampeg'ish tones as well as variations on the classic Ampeg tone.

Acoustic B100 or B200 could be suitable for the OP's needs.
