New Hartke HyDrive 5210C Combo Amp!

Sign in to disble this ad
Fed-Ex delivered my new Hartke HyDrive 5210C this morning. I've been tinkering with it off and on all day. I'm really glad I upgraded to this. This thing has the power/sound I wanted and all it lacks now is the Fender JBass that I ordered (should be here Thursday ). My Ibanez SR300 sounds great through it but I'm pretty sure I saw the amp wince when I went to plug it in initially... (I guess it was expecting a Rickenbacker?)

It sounds great, it looks great, and I can't wait to jam it this weekend!!

THANK YOU Larry Hartke for taking the time to talk me through this process. This combo is where I wanted to be. I am stoked! I might just roll it out to the front and sit in a lawn chair drinking beer and let my neighbors admire it from afar.

I'd like to hear more about this after you've had some experience with it - especially regarding how loud that puppy can get!

Post-gig review?

Thanks, smogg!

I definitely need more time with it but so far so good. I'll get a chance to really get into it once the Fender arrives on Thursday and get to play with some friends on Saturday (not an actual gig but....we'll get loud ).

Man, you weren't kidding. This thing is a beast. My new Fender Geddy Lee came in today and together......it's unbelievable. I pushed the Zoom under the bed. I won't be needing it for a while. The sweet sound of the Fender/Hartke is more than enough.

The EQ on the previous HyDrive 112C Combo was awesome but I'm very satisfied with this 5210C. I really wasn't expecting the power of the LH500 head to be what it is. It jams, it really really jams. I'm glad I made the upgrade.

Yes. And a very good idea. I've been using that exact rig for three months.

I recently purchased the HX115 to go with the 5210c and it is AMAZING! Not to mention it helps lift the combo up, thereby saving the back, and the total unit doubles as a great laptop table. And it is THUNDEROUS!

Both together stacked measure 4' tall, 2' wide, and 15" deep

That looks really sweet!

Would removing the combos wheels help with the coupling between the two cabs?

That's nice. I always tell myself, I will never buy a combo that can't run an extension cab. I like that you got a 1-15...

It appears there are already slots for the casters. Plus it raises the combo up a wee bit more towards your ears.

I have not removed mine but yes, I believe you can easily remove the head if you choose to.

yep, it's just a regular rack-mount head in the combo cab.

you know the matching-cab police will by by any minute to deliver your beating, don't you?

hartke really needs to make a nice hydrive 2x10 box to properly match up with that combo. (not that the added 15 doesn't still give you a bigger and badder tone than the 2x10 by itself, it's just that a matched 2x10 would be sweeter still.)

I'm in the market for a new combo and these Hartkes look pretty nice.

I got a couple of questions, if someone would be as so kind to answer them:

Will this combo keep up with a LOUD drummer? I swear my drummer is the hardest hitting in one in the state of Washington. My last amp was an old ACC 150 into a 1x15 cab, and I had the volume maxed out when I was jamming with him. It was loud enough to keep up with him, but a bit more volume would've been nice.

Also this amp has a preamp tube, yeah? I noticed the amp doesn't have a drive knob (like a lot of SS/tube hybrid amps), so do you get a pretty convincing grind when you crank the amp, or is it more solid state clipping nasty?

Thanks.
