| | | | New Head? Ampeg SVT 7 Pro or Eden WT550

Just wanting some advice if possible as i am new to this sort of thing.
I have just purchased an Ampeg SVT 4x10 HLF Cabinet. It's rated at 4 Ohms.
I am wanting to know what head would be better for general rock covers and i need something quite light in weight.
Was thinking of the Ampeg SVT 7 Pro as it's only 15 lbs and 1000w and would probably be paired up nicely to the cabinet or the Eden WT-550 which i think is 500w?
Thanks

| | | | The svt7 sounds awesome, never tried the Eden. I also played the 7 through a hlf, and thought it sounded great. |

I think the Eden is great, solid, & versatile but the Ampeg SVT7 has it's supporters as well. I certainly don't hate Ampeg. I have their new PF-500 head which I think is wonderful. |

| | | | I have owned the SVT 3 (450 into 4 ohms) and the 410-hlf. A perfect combo. I then sold the head for a SVT Classic all tube head. Big mistake. I lost the damping factor and the sound became muddy. There is a reason the 810 cabinet is sealed. The 410-hlf is ported.
The SVT 7 is brand new and has a D power amp. Digital switching. I'll keep the SVT 3 as it's mosfet, but the D power supplies are the next generation. After all the amps I have tried and owned in over 30 years, I'll take Ampeg anyday. Remember, Eden, SWR, GK are all copying the 810 standard started by Ampeg. Often copied, never duplicated. |

I think the SVT7 Pro would be the perfect match for that cab. To be honest I havent played a Eden so I can't comment on which is better. I just always liked the Ampeg tone.

| | | | Thanks so much, my only concern is the STV-7 Pro having just 1x pre-amp tube. |

With the Eden I struggled to cut through. In my living room the Eden sounded great but live it was tough to get a good sound. I know you are not considering the Navigator but I figured it was Eden and in the same tone world fwiw. |

| | | | Some one suggested today for me to get a GK800RB? Any thoughts on this head with a single 4 Ohm cab guys? Or is the 7 Pro the way to go?
Thanks |

Thanks | I love the 800RB, but you mentioned weight & power in your original thread, and the 800RB is a very different head. So what is your criteria...what are your priorities? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
