I think I might have luck out, a friend in church brother has move here from Calif. He doe's not want me to give his name, because he said everyone bother him. He worked for 10yrs for Fender building speaker Cabs. He said the speakers in my BRX12 are heavier then some of the newer neon's. Changing them could help with weight, also that cab was also design and could be used for a neo 15 that could make it lighter. He said for free for me, he could take the board out that holds the 12,s and put a neo 15 in it. and then go to parts exspress and get a handle and wheels like Ampeg uses and put on it. Are new neo 12s. What do you guys think of this idea. The wheels and handle around 50 bucks. Carvin neo 15 100 bucks board free labor free. |

If you can confirm that it's the exact same cab design as the neo ones, then heck yeah--put a neo speaker in there. You'll want to double-check on the pricing and availability of the neo though, as they are starting to become scarce and expensive. |

That cab is already loaded with Neo's
Going to a "newer" neo model *may* save you a 1/2 to a full pound (wowee). However, the new neo that goes in still needs to be modeled to ensure it will perform correctly.
And.........to correct your friend - that cab was NEVER designed for a 15" speaker. The same size cab was used for a 1X18, a 2X12, and a 4X10. Besides, the Carvin neo 15's are garbage. Very poor X-Max which will give you very little power before hitting it's limits.
Your new friend may have built cabs for Fender for 10 years, but if he does not know what I am talking about here, then the chances are he was a paid grunt that merely did assembly work with no knowledge of *why*

If I were the OP I would let the designer friend help build a "NEW" cab, not rework the one you have. I know you feel stuck with that Carvin cab, but if you are patient you will be able to sell it. |

But they don't have the big mag on them either, so like the one guy said replacing them wouldn't make much difference. I look it up on the web and it weighs 80 some pds. I not going to butcher it up, its a nice looking cab in good shape. Maybe someday I can sell it, or trade it for a nice smaller 15. Thank you all for your suggestions. |

OP, modding the cab like that, although it may work would shoot down resale value. That matters if it's something you want to get rid of eventually. Also neo has about doubled in price in the last month or so. It's your call if you think the expense is worth the improvement. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
