New Living Room Amp

Sign in to disble this ad
The other day in a very small Mom-Pop music store I found this small,(I know, don't beat me up.......) Behringer BX-108. The price was right, and I have been wanting to replace an old Princeton Amp that I had been using, it could not handle the lows even at very low volume. Tried it out with a Squire P and it passed the test for my use, just learning new tunes with the stereo.
Thing is, I didn't have enough cash and he did not take Discover. I told him I would come back another day. He says that's fine, but, insists that I take the amp with me, just return with the balance.
Now, I have been in this store only once before for about 15-20 minutes when I spotted this amp.
In this day and age, who let's you out the door with only a handshake for the balance? BTW, I paid the balance before the end of busniess that day, but, that is not what he asked for. He just told me, "next time you are in the neighborhood".
Again, who does this? This is how things were when I was a kid.
And, the amp work great, nice score.

Let the Behringer jokes roll . . .

fwiw regardless of what the product was - even if it was a pick, that guy would have me as a customer for life. It's amazing to me that kindness and trust are an oddity these days. . .

p.s. please tell me you went back and paid??

Where do you live?

I'd say that the seller took enough money to satisfy him and it probably covered the cost of the amp. If you screw him, he can afford it and it wont bother him. Or he really doesn't believe your gonna hurt him.

There could be numerous reasons but he probably has seen enough people to have a good Idea of who he can do somethng like this with.

What was the deposit and what was the total cost of the amp?

Behringer stuff are great start-up amps etc. When I was a kid starting out , I remember Kent basses,Silvertone amps(Sears)
and I had a Kent Bass . the only thing about Behringer I dont like is that they are everywhere in the market, good for them .............................

I have a Behringer practice amp and it's not bad. Like many amps in it's class it sounds great at lower volumes. When I turn it up past 6 it begins to sound like crap. Just use for what it is and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Youngspanion, It really wasn't the dollar amount, he wanted $50.00, I only had $25.00 on me. Also, it was a very small store, he had a lot of accordions, some horns and a few guitars and basses, it was the trust factor that blew me away. Yeah, I'll go back, he just has a small selection there. I also grabbed a set of Fender Flatwounds he had in a bag on top of a display cabinet, he didn't even have strings on display. I don't think he gets many rock players in there. Great experience though.

whenever I have had a great experience like that as a consumer, I find myself compelled to flip the person an extra 5 or 10 and tell them how great they are and to have lunch on me. Failing that please remember to "pay it forward".
Rock on.
