New low cost Markbass combo

Markbass just came out with a new, low cost 150 watt 1x15 combo that weighs in at 34.6 lbs. They're six bones at Guitar Center. Very interesting!

Why would you buy that when you can get a Behringer 180 watt 1x15 for $250?

Hm maybe because G-K is proven quality stuff made here in the US and you don't have to pay the import duties that inflate the price. Behringer? Really?

...at any rate, the intention of this thread wasn't to announce a new Markbass amp that's low cost relative to EVERY SINGLE AMP EVER MADE. It's low cost relative to other amps in the Markbass lineup.

The GK and the TC are both excellent combos at $400 so to me thats at least $200 for the yellow paint.

It's an interesting move for Markbass, but I don't have high hopes for sales. Personally, if I wanted to stay with Markbass, for gigs that require no more than 150w I'd rather come up with the dough for a CMD 121P combo. I'd bet it would keep up. I already have a CMD 121H combo (bigger cab) and it does great for smaller gigs, compared to my LMIII head with one of my Traveler 151P cabs (the 151P makes a huge difference). Right now there aren't much for specs out for the little JB, not even what the amp and speaker are, as far as I can find. But, at $600 (on MF) I think more players might look at other brands, like GK. I would, too.

Bingo. I agree that's a good one. Of course, though, it's much more expensive and heavier. But, it's not aimed at the same market either, or for the same purpose.

I saw the specs above on their website, but it's not as complete as most of their other products. I'd like to know more. However, it's true that all Markbass products are made with top-notch components (so they say), and they are very reliable (I can vouch for that personally). Perhaps the price reflects that.

Pity about the price tag. It's way too high for a 150w amp. I agree that it should be around the $400 mark.

Yeah - it is a bit too expensive - but I'll bet it is great for small to medium sized gigs. The power rating is just not that important - you can barely hear the difference between 150 and 300W, if at all. (it is not twice as loud).

The efficiency of the cab and driver are much more important than the amp power I'll bet they are quite high. I think that would be surprised if you tested it.

I have been using and abusing my little CMD121P now for 3-4 years with not a single issue except that people don't believe that it is that little amp shaking the walls!

Sensitivity numbers are fudged so much that they are almost completely unreliable though.
