I have the same setup since the early 90's.
Then he added the 400+ later. Quote: |

I used to set my 400+ EQ in a similar way, it just basically acts as an Attenuator between the pre and power sections. It's kinda cool, it lets you crank your pre & master knobs up higher without getting too loud. It doesnt trully overdrive the power section at lower volumes, but it does give some gain-staging options that you normally wouldnt have

I'm still not sure why it does that, even though I like that it does and use it in lieu of an overdrive channel. |

I went to my local long & mcquade yesterday and talked to one of the sales guys there when I saw one of the new PH series cabs. I asked him if they planned on getting the new all tube bass heads in at any point, and he took me over to the computer and ordered one of each in for me to try!
He said he wont know when they'll be coming in, but took down my number and said he'll give me a call when he hears anything about them. |

Some news. Visited my friend who works at the local Mesa dealer. On the way out, I asked the guys downstairs about the new bass tube heads. They told me they have the smaller one on order and might even get it this month. I'm gonna get first crack at it. Ill report back after I demo it(or buy it!).

If its nice ill probobly pick it up. Love my 400+ and my walkabout. The 400+ is overkill I figure 120 watts is plenty

Hi there James,
The new Bass Prodigy and Bass Strategy we're developing will have a KT-88 based power section with a 12AX7 pre and should be spot on for what you're requesting.
There hasn't been an official release date announced for the new Bass Prodigy and Bass Strategy at this point. However, I can tell you that if you are interested in being among the first to know about their release date along with more technical info, I’d suggest signing up for our mailing list at http://mesaboogie.com/news/ and/or visiting our website frequently, as any new official information will always be made available there first.
Thanks for your interest in Mesa/Boogie |

First off let me tell you how much I enjoy my Mesa gear. I have a Titan V12, Ph 4-12 and Ph 2-15 and have been, and continue to be, very pleased with it. However, I really want a new Mesa tube amp head for my bass. I had a NOS 400+ and could never dial in the tone I wanted. I bought a Marshall VBA 400 and that tone is almost spot on. I say almost, because it has a very basic tone stack. What I would like is for Mesa to get back in the bottle bass business. Can you imagine how glorious the M9 control layout would be in a 8 KT-88 (or 6550)/12ax7 pre-amped config? It would be awesome! I understand you do not talk about upcoming products, but I would love to continue with an all Mesa set up and think this would be a niche hit!! Thank you for your time and your very fine products.
Please give me my bottle fed bass destructo rig!!! |

But ... 300 and 500w ? wow. I'm surprised to hear that. It was my understanding that were were expecting amps in the 100ish and 300 watt range. 500w all tube amp will be quite the toaster (however good it sounds).
Wasn't the discontinued Strategy power amp a 500w beast ?
There was a Strategy 400 as well I think.
I am still eagerly awaiting an opportunity to try either/both of these amps.
