I just got this Acoustic 140 head. I wasn't sure what to expect for $90, but it sounds pretty killer. Does anybody have any info on how to date it? Serial number is R 3814

open it up. the date it was made is almost always stamped on the chassis. if it's not, the codes on the main filter caps or pots will get you close.

Made from 1972 - 1976 so that gets you in the right era if that helps. SN or stamp may hone in more on which year.

I'll have to open it up tomorrow. It's at my studio, and I'm at home now. I'll definitely check the chasis

I already checked this page out before I bought it.

Do either of you (or anyone else) happen to know.. Obviously I can run 1 cab at 4 ohms. Can I run 2 8 ohm cabs out of the back? Also there seem to be 3 speaker outputs, can you give me any info on these? Speaker 1, Outputs 2, and Booster Output

Yes two 8 ohm cabs equals a 4 ohm load to the amp. The Bass Boost jack, sorry no help here (I had a 360/361).

Should be no problem running two 8 ohm cabs Eric but I've never used one so I'm in the dark about your other question.

Awesome, thanks. I figured it would work. This is how I've been running my other amps, but this head is pretty hard to find info on so far.

I have a 136 combo (essentially the same head attached to a 15" cab), but i believe the bass booster jack is for a power amp plug in which would make the 140 head just a preamp.

That makes sense. I found another thread and someone said it is basically the same as a line out found on a modern head. Would that coincide with what you're saying? Sorry, I don't really know what practical function a line out serves on an amp.

You can connect it to the input of an external power amp & drive even more speakers. You can also run it to a PA input.

To drive a second amp and speaker. 360 was a preamp with 4 outs to run 361 self powered cabs (1200 watts and 4 18" folded horn cabs).
