Doesn't look like too many options for bass, but a good idea in theory.

How long will iPhone batteries last when using one of these applications? Would you be able to get through a 4-hour gig and have enough power in reserve to make phone calls after the gig without recharging?

I wouldn't use this live or at a band practice, but this does look beneficial for practicing at home. Especially for us who only have our main rig.

Interesting.

It would really suck to have a call come in during a gig.

Though, since apple uses ATT... No signal, no call.

Wait . . . you can make calls on an iPhone?

I wonder if this app will run on the iPad - you know, the giant iPhone that can't make calls.

If it works on an iPhone, then it will probably work on an iPod Touch. Then you won't have to worry about phone calls during or after the gig.

Two words: "Airplane Mode"

Also be sure to turn off WiFi too... email pings suck.

After using the iRig a little bit I posted a variety of comments on the iRig and Amplitube over here: http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/vie...hp?f=1&t=10969

My initial summary: Not really worth the $40-$60 the iRig and software cost.

A friend of mine has this app and I was turned off when I found out that every amp and pedal is an add on cost.

The one-off add-ons are only in the trial for some reason. In the store they offer two packages, LE and Full which are the better buys if you want lots of guitar amps and stuff. A bass player could install the free version, then install the bass amp for $4 or whatever it is and call it a day.

However, the overall sound quality is poor. You have to crank everything get a loud enough audible signal which causes a lot of distortion. Really, the sound just isn't that good. I suppose if you had no other portable practice device, or really wanted guitar through your iphone, then it would suffice.

But you can get a used Pandora which is better sounding.

Pretty much what I was going to say. There are a few other apps that are similar but the iPhone just wasn't meant for this purpose so your guitar/bass will sound distorted and not in a good way. I really was hoping for the iPhone to be my all in one practice machine but I'm pulling out my old Pandora.
