I currently play an Ibanez 5 string on a Ampeg SVT 350 with an Ampeg 4x12 and Ampeg 1x15. It does not belong to me, but rather the guitarist in my current band. I am trying to plan my next move, and I do have some idea of what i'd like to get. I'm a little uncertain about some things though, trying to wrap my head around wattage and impedance and frequencies.
GK 1001Rb-II is 700 watts, 4 ohms. If I pair it with the GK Neo 4x10 (800 watts, 4 or 8 ohm models) I can use the Bi-amp feature, which is something I'm unfamiliar with but very curious about.
So.. if I have one 4x10 at 4 ohms, 700 watts from the head should pair acceptably with the 800w cab?
2 4x10's at 8 ohms is a net impedance of 4 ohms I believe, but would my wattage be split between and I'd only get 350 to each, underpowering them?
I was told by my instuctor years ago that with a 5 string I need at least 1 15 inch speaker to carry the frequency of the low B (I tune it to A)
so... GK Neo410 @ 8 ohms..
GK Neo 115 @ 8 ohms.. totals 4 ohms?
But ive heard of people saying others fall into the "410 and 115 trap"
And I also originally wanted to save a little space, my current rig is as tall as I am and much heavier.
Guide me, wise ones. I see myself spending much more money than necessary without guidance, and potentially burning my amp up not understanding ohms and what not.
I would eventually like to replace the bass as well for the Ibanez 6 string.. I find myself on the 24th fret of the G too often..
Thanks for any feedback
