NEW SITUATION....PREAMP HELP PLEASE

Sign in to disble this ad
So i have recently quit my band and the only playing i do now is at church and home. So i am looking to re-arrange my rig accordingly. Currently i use a vt bass into an iamp 500. I have no cab at the moment as i sold my 8x10. We have just moved to in-ear monitors at church so my main focus is my preamp section and just have a cab for a little bit of stage feel and at home ie. 1x12 or 2x10. I am looking at selling my iamp aswell to fund whatever i do. So i have been looking at the svp-cl or svp-bsp with a power amp or the svt-7pro. Or am i better of saving my money and sticking with the vt bass i already have as a pre? Is getting an ampeg worth the extra money or does the vt get me close enough? Also suggestions for cabs would be appreciated. Note i am in New Zealand and we have limited brands here. It would be too expensive to ship a cab from the states, although i could look at getting one from australia. I hope this isn't too hard too understand. Thanks

I just went on a NZ music website and the prices are really up there. I am in S. Fla USA..............Anyway after selling off your 810 Ampeg cab there will be a big drop-off with anything else, also the heads are so expensive that you have to really shop carefully. If it were me I would try to get at least a 215 but that's me and I am over here in the states.....I have a 115 Ampeg cab that cost me $350.....At least with a 15" you can have some bottom etc. Here is a link for a bass 210 cab from a good online site maybe shipping to NZ wouldn't be that prohibited....?

best of luck to you......

Thanks for your input waleross. Yea everything over here is real expensive and it is hard to come by good second hand gear which is why i would ship over the preamp from aus/usa. I could look into the cab aswell i guess. I am really looking for opinions about the preamps mentioned and whether its worth the extra money over my vt bass. I like the everything about the 7pro that i have heard so far except for the price in NZ and i am a little bit suspect over the quality and reliability. But i like the fact that it's low weight, has a tube di and has headphone out. The preamp/poweramp idea would be cheaper but heavier

Just be careful as to the mains supply voltage of the item you get, 120volt 60Hertz in the USA, 240volt 50 hertz in NZ/Australia, 220volt 50 hertz in the UK.
Some equipment may have a voltage selector switch, otherwise you will need a step-down transformer for the power.
