New Speakers Or New Cabs ?

Sign in to disble this ad
If I have a speaker that in the specs says "Vas: 5.6 cu. ft."
(Eminence Kappa-15LFA 15" Low Frequency Driver)

and I put it in a cab that has "Vas: 4.07 cu. ft."
(GK Neo 115-I)

Would it be bad for the speaker? or the cab? or just the sound?

The problem: I believe that I have over driven the speakers (5 string switch on and now there is an over excursion clanky buzz type noise if I play below G) and I don't seem to have any "solid" lows, mostly midrange honk and rattle.

Impossible to say, as you can't consider only one spec, you have to consider all of them. Also, cab's don't have Vas, only drivers do, and the driver Vas spec does not correspond to the cabinet net volume, Vb.
