New Vintage Amp

I got a Ampeg B-25b the other day and I love it. I have found out it is impossible to find hardly any information on these amps though. Mine is the 2x15 with original rollers, head cover and everything. I was wondering if there is any way to date these amps, or if anyone has any information on these amps. I must say it has an amazing tone, and gets LOUD to only be 55watt.

Wow! What a find. I regret that I can give you no real info on your amp, but I did own one in about '71 or '72. I didn't much like the 15's at that time and replaced them with SRO's. Other then the cab being a monster to move, it was a great amp. Of course I was much younger at the time, and moving a 2-15 didn't bother me. I did, however, eventually sell the head and bought a V4-B for the extra wattage. Still, if I could buy an original B-25, I would jump on it.

Talk to the guys at Welcome to Fliptops -- Parts for Ampeg and other Vintage Amp Lovers , they're a great source for old Ampeg parts and toys. With a serial number they can probably date your amp. Ken

You won't be able to date that amp with a serial number, the 70s serial numbers don't have a standard format but if you can provide pictures we could give a round about date. Exact dating has to be done with component date codes, either from pots, transformers, or other electrical components. Congrats on the find, they're great little heads.

If you go to www.ampegv4.com they have PDF versions of the 70s manuals and product brochures.

If you'll use the search function - you'll find a good deal of B25B head and cab info here. There have been several threads within the last couple of years with lots of info - some just within the last few weeks. Enjoy.

Not sure if b25 or b25b work as search terms in the search bar but if you do a google site search (add "site:www.talkbass.com") for the terms you should be able to find a good amount of info.

i'm not absolutely sure of the B25B production dates (i don't own the Ampeg book) but IIRC they were introduced in around '69. the actual date of you amp as said earlier can be found on the components (capacitors, pots etc). it was basically ampeg's answer to the Fender Bassman.

if you don't have it already, here's a link to the 1971 Ampeg brochure page for it:
