My MB800 is louder, still light and punchier as heck.

If I want to go lighter, I have a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 with an SWR 2x10 GoLight, can carry the GB in a backpack, SWR in one hand , Rick in the other.
If I need more I add the 410HE Ampeg cab to the SWR, almost outperforms the SVT.

I was already a GK fan, and had used it since I moved away from a combo practice amp with the 400RB; but I was using their big, heavy ceramic speakered 410. I tried a 410 NEO, but it was just too... Phat.
I'm currently using a 700RB/NEO 212. It's quick, punchy, focused, and has just the right amount of bottom to work anywhere. Did I mention it sound killer when cranked way up?

I also think SWR has always been overhyped and a tad pricey for what you get.

| | | | To play live and use the Laney RB9 + RB410 is very good. For practice at home using the Roland Cube 120XL.
And I'm a great amp Laney Nexus. |

I have used SilverTone 12 and 212, Fender Bassman with 212, Sunn Concert (I think), Peavey (Many of them- and I will say this has been the most reliable amps of all - never had one to fail), Eden 800C and WP100B, GK 1001, GBE 1200, Streamliner 900, Aguilar 751, and TH500.

The Thunderfunk heads are some of the best heads I have ever played. Very musical, warm yet defined. Built like a tank. EQ is great, and output & DI are very useful. Easy to get a great tone from the Thunderfunks!
The Aggie cabs are great sounding cabs, and are very roadworthy. Well built, and great sound, and a good value.

| | | | Just came back from a music store and tried out many different bass amps. With bass guitar you generally work with a clean sound...and I have to tell you though there is different character of clean sounds most of them all sound good. It's just what flavor of clean you like best. Some of it depends on your playing style, how old/or new the strings are, and what type of pickups the bass has. With electric guitar you work not only with clean sounds but mid crunch to over drive leads. I believe what guitar amp you play makes more of a difference than the bass amp.
The Hartke 1000 watt amp has more top end than the Aguilar but for my sound, I would back off the treble on the a hartke so it sounds more like the aguilar sound I like. It sounds just as good though different. I prefer the aguilar sound but I would also be happy with the Harkte though I don't like the weight of it. The Ampeg B2RE has that Ampeg character compared to the more sparkle sound of the Hartke. The pre amp tube in the Hartke though helps it not sound too sterile but the amp has more of a neutral sound over the other two amps. SWR also has a bright sound and modern sound. But with the Eq, you can control its brightness. Ashdown has more of a thick full low end sound that may be a great choice for rock. I agree its nice two have at least two different bass amps as its nice to have a different character sound once in a while. I would not mind the Hartke as my second sound when I don't want the wonderful narley character of my Aguilar. The Shuttle 6.2 would also be a good choice as well. |

Why Ampeg? I love my SVT... Just love it. The Micro-VR is there for practice at home and times when I don't want to schlep my SVT around... Band tryouts, jams, that sort of thing. I just get my tone with it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
