I've spent the last week or so searching manufacturer websites, TalkBass, and talking to my coworker thats played bass since before I was born in search for the right combo amp. Before I was using a VOX AmPlug but returned it rescently after deciding to buy the Boss ME-20B for use as my portable headphone amp (and also effects).
Originally I was looking at some combo amps from Ampeg, Acoustic, Fender, and Behringer in the $250 price range. My coworker had recomended I get an amp that has the option to extend to a seperate cab. The Acoustic B100 was on my list but having no XLR out seemed kind of bad for down the road. The B200 caught my eye and based on one of the reviews in the gear section, it would work great with a 410 cab added on down the road. However, spending $350 on that or $50 extra on the seperate head and cab (for easier transport) was a little high for me. I think I'm thinking too big. Within the next year, I'm 100% positive I will not use the amp anywhere other than my room. So if anything, I'd be wasting money right now.
All I need is a descent practice amp for my Squier Standard Jazz Bass. I'm thinking this time in the $150 range and 20-30 watts. Sure ~100 watts for the ~$250 range would be nice, it's unnecessary for me, unless someone can convince me why I should spend that much right now.
I'm looking at the following:
Acoustic B20 (20W, 12", 32lbs.)
Fender Rumble 30 (30W, 10", 29lbs.)
Fender Rumble 25 (25W, 10", 32lbs.)
Fender Bassman 25 (25W, 10", 32lbs.)
Behringer BXL450 (45W, 10", 31lbs.)
Which would you recomend? I'm thinking of either the Acoustic B20 or Fender Bassman 25. I've seen great reviews on the B20, and it has a 4 band EQ but no line out. The Bassman is nice since it can hookup to a seperate cab (which disconects the internal speaker) and can line out but has only a 3 band EQ.
