Newbie needs some advice....

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm new to playing bass. I've got an old MIJ Fender Jazz w/ American Jazz pickups and have a couple of the GK Backline bass cabs, 1-15" an 2-10" which were given to me.....nice surprise.

Question: Are the GK cabs OK? (I realize they are the low end GK stuff) or would it be worthwhile to replace the speakers.....looking at a GK 700RB head at this time.....

Any suggestions as to good bass rig for playing blues would be appreciated. Trying to keep the cost reasonable...Thanks.

If it ain't broke don't fix it! The amp you are interested in is a good unit.

If it sounds OK it is OK. The 700 RB II is a good amp but at this point I see no reason to get it over the Mb500 -- tone is just as good and it's 1/5th the weight and the same price or less. Don't worry about it until you've tested them out with an amp, since you've already got them

As far as replacing drivers, I wouldn't bother with those cabs. If they don't do it for you as is, put them on Craigslist and buy something better.
