I like and seek the deep resonance.. I dont expect to get it on electric but something satysfying enough is doable.

My EUB doesn't sound like my DB, how would any bass guitar be able to?
I began playing classical DB in 1971. Haven't played it many years now, but I know how it sounds. Electric can get close, at least, with the right technique and eq.

Kala ubass is close enough to an amped DB to get used on gigs that normally require an amped DB. See Tim Watson's youtube channel. You need a preamp that handles a piezo and some EQ.

I use this technique a lot myself, thought not necessarily to emulate an upright, but just where it's tonally appropriate for whatever song I'm playing.

I usually find that whenever I got out with an electric bass with the idea in mind to try to sound like an upright bass, eventually I always come back to the idea that it doesn't really matter whether you do or not - it's what you play that matters.

I'm in the camp that says it can't truely be done so I get by decently on any bass by cutting highs and playing over the fretboard. I see no need for a mute, uprights have a lot of sustain.
No need to invest in a myth.

I totally agree.

the bass does matter

the bass does matter. Without any changes in technique my hofner icon with flats sounds far more like an upright bass than my fender jazz ever did.
The icon isn't going to fool anyone into thinking its an upright bass, but it's hollow and that makes a real difference. Give your listeners a reason to and they'll suspend their disbelief.
