Newbish question about wattage and cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry if this in the sticky, I did look, I promise. It's not the ohms I have a question about, it's the wattage.

So, the head delivers 700 watts at 4 ohms. I'll be running two 8ohm cabs.

My question is... is the 700 watts distributed evenly amongst the cabs? So, as long as both 8 ohm cabs are capable of handling 350 watts, I'm good to go?

My head is telling me yes, but it's also telling me to double check before I pull the trigger. Surprisingly, all of the faq's and stuff I've looked at don't specifically address this, they mostly just talk about the ohms.

Yes, it'll be evenly divided between the 2 cabs.

Did you get the part about how it's not the best idea to mix and match cabs and how wattage doesn't mean that much anyway?

Buy identical cabs, if it sounds stressed or distorted turn down or add a cab.

Thanks for the reply. And for the heads up about mixing speakers...

I was going to get a 1x15 and a 2x10, both GK MBE... now after doing some more reading, I'm thinking about just going with a single 4x10 at 4 ohms. Decisions, decisions.

I've been thinking about this purchase for over a month now, and I still don't know what I'm going to end up doing.

you'll find a lot of advice to go with stacking 2 2-10 cabs vertically (1 by 4) instead of going with the 4-10. From my own experience I'd have to agree. Plus the schleppage is a bit easier, at least for my own situation.

A pair of 8ohm 210's stood on end is a nice rig. Volume of a 410, twice the dispersion and speakers up at ear level means you can always hear yourself. Plus you can bring one for small stuff and the rig fits in the smallest of vehicles. There really is no disadvanteges compared to a 410 and plenty to gain.

If you believe nothing else you read on TB, believe this.

I agree. I still love 810's or two 410's, but the single 410 has lost of its lustre for me since getting two 210AV's.
