| | | | Nicest rig in town?
Sign in to disble this ad
After years of going to shows, bar gigs, and church P&W events, I feel as I've done enough research to support my next statement.
I have the nicest bass rig in town. I actually have the number 1 and 2 rigs.
I have a Mesa 400+ paired with a Mesa Diesel 1516 and a Mesa M6 paired with a Mesa Powerhouse JR.
Occasionally, a touring band will come through with an SVT, Orange, or GB rig that sounds great, but most other bassists in town play GK backline series, Ampeg BA series, and of course the Infamous Behringer Eurobass. (not bashing anybodies tone or playing)
I live in a small city of 30,000 people, but we have a strong music scene and thriving culture for the arts here.
Anybody else feel as they have the nicest rig in town?

Are you the best bassist in town because of your rig?

I am very happy with my own gear, it has been acquired through hard work to pay for it and years of experimentation to select it, so I feel like I've earned it. I live in a much larger city than you but can't immediately think of any other rig in town that I would trade mine in for. I play through an Eden WT800A and Ampeg SVT 810, both secondhand but in perfect condition.
However, I could never say that my rig is necessarily nicer than anyone else's, that would depend entirely on personal needs and preferences. It is most certainly not the most expensive rig in town, lots of brand new Ampeg, Orange, Aguilar and Markbass stuff around, but the priciest stuff around here does not satisfy me nearly as much.
So I'm glad you like the stuff you have, but I think the golden rule is that the best rig is the one that produces the best sounds in the right context, and that is entirely subjective.
Martin

While Mesa stuff is OK, I'm not really very envious...and there's ALWAYS someone in town with a nicer rig. You just haven't seen it. That dude who lives down the street that has a 69 SVT with matching cabs...that you don't even know plays bass, fer instance.
What constitutes a 'nice rig' is in the eyes of the guy who has it when you get down to it.

So, what town do you live in?

But what gets on my nerves is how they say my Ampeg SVT 4 Pro is not as good as someone's Ashdown. I explain to them I bought and assembled MY rig for a reason.
Nothing against Ashdown, I just like my stuff more, which is why I bought it! |

I live in New York City, there are crappy little $40/hour rehearsal studios for blocks in every direction that have Aguilar stacks as the house bass rig. |

I do have the most awesome rigs in town, but while I'm one of the better players here, I'm not THE best, and I would prefer to be the best. Just remember that a great bassist will make any amp sound great while a crap player will make even the best rig sound like the worst.

Anybody else feel as they have the nicest rig in town? | I don’t have the nicest bass amp in town but I still like my little GK MB115’s. BTW, don’t let anyone depress you - it’s ok to like your equipment expressly if it inspires you musically. |

I have no idea where my rigs rate, maybe the other guys don't bring their good stuff to the gigs I go to? |
