Noisy Ashdown fans?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anybody had this problem? I love my Ashdown EVO II 500 dearly (I've been using Ashdown amps for the last ten years or so with no problems to speak of), but just recently I noticed that the fans are getting mighty loud. I took it in to get looked at, and apparently it's in great shape, but the fans are getting louder as the years go by. This wouldn't be a problem in a live setting, but in the studio (where I discovered this problem a couple weeks ago) it's pretty inconvenient. Have you encountered and/or solved this problem? I guess I'll need to completely replace them eventually...

One solution would be to get a long speaker lead (Get a large gauge, 12 should do it) and run it under a door, so your head can be in a separate room from the miked cab. Even without using a separate room, just getting some distance between the two usually solves all fan-related recording problems.

have you checked for any dust buildups inside? could cause it to heat up more and set off the fans. otherwise i cant imagine it'd be too hard to replace the fans, the ones in my mag look like ordinary pc fans.

Mine are kinda loud too, but I am not using it for recording. I cleaned them, but it is still noisy.
