Can someone explain to me the benefits and disadvantages of running differant types of cabs? For example the differance of an 8"10 to 2 1"15 and 2 2"10

nope. every cab configuration is different and should be judged on its own merits. for example, one 810 can sound and perform wildly different from another with just a tweak or two. about the only thing that you can generalize is that bigger works better, but smaller rigs can sound quite good as well as long as they can handle your output needs.

Well 8x10s the best way to say it produce a wall of sound and wont need pa support. but in my opinion I think 15's sound better. Im not trying to start a war but for what I play i like the fat round tone i get from 15's. But 2x10s have benifits too like being able to carry them on your own at 8x10 is a pain to unload and lift up on stage. It really depends on what you want to sound like. 10s are punchier, 15s are rounded and fat and clear, it also depends on how much you want to carry.

I'm looking for a punchy sound. I use trace elliot heads although i've been considering Eden, mesa/boogie and even glockenklang now.To be put simply I have no idea how to assemble a rig, and would hate to spend lot's of money only to find it won't provide what I want.

play through a bunch of different rigs, and when you find one that you really like and can afford, buy it.

Music stores kinda only have combos where I'm at, and the ones that do have rigs get kinda pis$y when I ask to try them out. I pretty much have to rely on reviews and youtube demos. At least until college.

walk in with $2000 in your pocket, and when they get pissy, just show them your $2000 and they will get unpissy in short order. if you don't have $2000, go in with your parents and let them run interference for you. salesmen do take parents more seriously than kids, it's a bummer but it's a fact.

i'm almost 17 so i find it frustrating if they won't take me seriously, I do have $2000 to walk in with. But the main problem isn't service but stock. I can either try out ampeg, ampeg or ampeg.

and you're complaining?

you can't do much about store selection except find another store or take chances on gear you've never played. there is a lot of great non-ampeg gear out there, no doubt. but ampeg's done me right for over 30 years now and i really like the stuff they make these days. could be much worse...they could only stock behringer, and then you'd really be up a creek.

Hmm I guess you're right. A local store is getting in some mesa stuff but it's grossly overpriced. But like you said could be worse.
