Not another which cab thread.....

So TB, I've been looking locally for a cab to go along with the head I'm planning on picking up. Theres really only three viable choices I've found. I'd appreciate advice on which to get.

I use a schecter raiden 5 and an ibanez atk 300, which will more than likely be running through a vintage Kustom 200watt head. (the purplish padded one lol)

Anyway the cabs I've found so far are

Fender 2x15 w/wilder speakers $100 http://www.musicgoround.com/search.a...max=&c=10&ob=6

SWR Triad $175 (not exact one but same configuration)

and last but not least a David Eden 4x10 $200 (not exact one but same speaker configuration)

Planning on using at church and some smaller club/bar type gigs. Also the fender was the only one i was able to try out, but my teacher said lugging a 2x15 is a PITA so i'm leaning more towards probably the 4x10.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks

4x10 will probably be heavier than 2x15. Some good wheels will make it easier to haul any cab.

The Eden cab appear to generate 8db higher spl. With the Kustom amp, you'll get more sound per watt with the Eden.

If the Eden is a D-410T as opposed to a D-410XLT, I'd go with the Triad. If the Eden is the XLT, go with it if you have a strong back.

Fender 2x15 FTW

Unless you like "modern" sounds, the Fender is quite good at the classic sounds.

Personally, I prefer sealed 2x15s to any other type cab.

Because someone at Eden long ago cooked the spec sheets. Eden has been among the worst in the industry for that. And that's saying something, because very few players in the bass cab sector have ever had anything approaching honest referenced figures. Truth is, drivers that are suitable for bass cab use tend to be very similar in terms of sensitivity, so the verdict is to avoid anyone's "numbers game" and just get on with the listening.

Of the three, I'd go for the Fender first, given the amplifier mentioned, and knowing how great it is to have speakers up nearer ear level. Also, these are pretty loud unless you are trying to make a low B sound good in them with 800 watts or something - then their farting is a real drag.

Second would be the Eden. Either model Munji mentioned is not so bad (as 410 cabs go, not my thing especially). If all drivers are good, these will be decent cabs fir the long haul.

Last would be the SWR Triad. they were very poorly designed, and often have problems with components because of it. Not so loud for their size either, and if big powere ever gets brought to them they are a potential downtimer beyond what one should expect.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I guess a little more information might help.

I'm 18, 6ft1in and 185lb athletic so weight isnt a huge problem, as i will be putting wheels on any of these cabs, and i lift 70+ pounds for work everyday.

The problem might come in with my car, i have a 1996 geo prizm, which is not a big car. so trunk space is slightly limited.

Like i mentioned I played through the fender and I like the sound alot, but i've never met a bass or tone that i dont like

Any more opinions? Keep em coming.

Kind-of an old post, but I just stumbled across it.

The old Triads were crap (like the one pictured). SWR didn't put a lot of effort into them. It was a quick gimmic for sales.

However, the newer ones (post-fender) seem to be redisigned. I played an older Triad and wouldn't pay anything for it. However, I now own a newer one and it does just fine. Great tone, zero issues (cab is over 3 years old) and has withstood it's fair share of jams. SWR must have redesigned the cab around the time Fender took over. From my experience with the one I now own thusfar has been positive. It's a great cab for low volume gigs and home practice. However, if you're jamming with a band that needs to be loud, I would look at other options.

I owned the Triad for a while it was underpowered and it didn't handle a 5 string well even with flat settings so I sold it go with Eden
