Now I understand...

Since I've been playing out, I have only ever plugged into the P.A. that the lead singer/guitarist provides. It sounds fine I guess, but the $350 I invested in all new EMG pups and electronics is kinda lost through it IMO.

I have a Peavey Max 158 15w practice amp at home.

Well, I just had a practice over at our new drummer's house.
His buddy (another bass player) keeps his gear over there for practicing and such. I got permission to plug into this guy's Mesa Boogie Big Block 750 Amp driving a Mesa Boogie 4x10 Powerhouse Bass Cabinet.

Now I understand...

Fun when you get to plug into something "big" for the first time, no?

How long before you buy a new rig? its amazing what a difference there is between a practice amp and a real setup.

Once you discover Mesa bass gear, there is no need to look at anything else!

Until he plays through the next big rig that sounds great! Congrats on turning the corner... prepare to be broke!

Yeah, got home and priced it all out.
Oh boy... I have a while to go, but man, did I feel like a king for about an hour and a half

I will be spending more time in the 'Amps' section now, trying to make sense of all these new terms and numbers.

Heh, heh, reminds me of the first time I played my buddy's Ampeg V4 through his SVT 810. I'll never be the same again, ever.

There's always plenty of used MESA gear in the forums. But even used you're looking at over $800 for a head + cab, or combo. I've only owned the Big Block and Titan, the latter which I still use. But I've always wanted a Walkabout combo and extension cab.

I used to own a Mesa Powerhouse 1200 cab. It sounded amazing, but it was huge and heavy. When my previous band broke up and the van broke down, I had to sell it because I couldn't move it. That's the only downside of "big" gear.
