... and when i saw adam blackstone w/ jill scott, he was using SWR stuff, even tho on the block party dvd he was using an eden stack.
| Is the Block Party DVD the same as the VH1 Soul/Palladia thing she did? I've been trying to find a copy of that gig because Adam played some just sick nasty lines on there. You can find clips of it on YouTube. Quote: Scott McArron
Another great fact is that both of my groups are playing a festival this weekend. The cool part is that I get to play with my current rig on Saturday, make the rig trade Sunday morning, and then try out the new Aguilar rig Sunday afternoon on the same stage as I did with my first rig. Cool beans...
Now how's that for a great chance to put each one through its paces? I hope/think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what the Aguilar can do.
| I'm looking forward to hearing the AG500 through my DB410. I've only heard it through GS series cabs. Anyone in Houston wanna help me out? I'll bring my DB750!

Can you help?
Are the DB1x12 and 2x12s cabs good? As in on par with Schroeder/Berg etc? Do they have good resale value?
Is it best to get 2x 1x12, or 1x 2x12?
PLSSSS help

Is it best to get 2x 1x12, or 1x 2x12? | There is so much written on these questions that it might be silly to reply with anything except to try the search function. But here is a quick reply to your answers in succession.
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. 112 x 2 has the advantage of being easier to transport, but some people think you lose some low punch unless you're running the two 12s in a single cabinet, as in a 212. |

My reasons are all over this club thread. As far as transport... Sure, having 2 cabs that break down sounds easier - the option to use just 1 is nice but after thinking about it at least I have casters on my cab and I can use it as a dolly... The only time I have to lift my DB750 in it's tourcase is in and out of my truck or onto the stage.
For answer #4 above, I've read here that 2 x 112's actually sound deeper because a DB112 is deeper at 19" than a DB212 at 17.25" (not sure if that's exact - I don't remember).
I feel confident about the resale value of my DB212, simply because they're not often found used. |

PLSSSS help | My $.02 worth - the DB cabs are just as good or better than the Bergs. The Schroeders are good cabs but don't seem to be on par with the others since, to my ears, they have a less desirable tone. Their resale value doesn't seem to hold up as well either.
As for the single 2x12 or two 1x12 rig...just depends on your needs. I liked the depth of the 2x12 but there are a few pros to using two 1x12's such as versatility (using just one or both), vertical stacking, transportability, etc.

I think the 2 x DB1x12 will weigh about 89lbs! (one with horn). Whereas the DB2x12 is all in one, is slightly cheaper, means I only have to get one cover, and is 70lbs. I think id rather cut through with punch rather than lots of low end....so perhaps the db2x12 would be correct for me.
Both my amps work down to 4ohms only. I have a LM3 on its way (500W) and an Orange AD200b (same wattage no matter what cab). Would you think a 4 ohm db2x12 or an 8 ohm db2x12 would be best? Which would be best if I ever needed to sell on....as in do more people favour the 4 or 8.
Thanks!

Thanks! | From watching the classifieds for years, more people seem to prefer the 4 ohm cabs since most either can't afford multiple cabs (me) or just prefer the ease of hauling around one cab and still getting the full power out of their amp.

I was looking for a one-cab does small-med venues and a LM3 with a DB212 might be just right. 500W is bloody loud. In my experience I have never really gone over 2/3s power with my old Trace that I sold, and that was at 8 ohms into a 4x10...so about 280W max. The LM3 will be pumping all its power...and I tried the 2 x 112 and they seemed really loud at 1/3 power with the LM.
If I go for 8ohms...im back to square one of needing another cab to get full power.
What do the DB cabs perform like at decent high volumes?
Thanks

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Seattle | | Get me a number. I just traded my F1/BergAE112x2 rig straight across for an AG500-112c + GS112NT!
I'm off to a PA-supported outdoor gig (that I just played yesterday with a different band and and my other rig) to see how she does on stage. So far, I'm digging the sound for what I'm doing these days. Neither rig is better than the other, just quite a bit different. I do find the AG a bit more versatile with a higher top-end that's great for R&B type of slap/pop. Definetly smoother, deeper, thicker sound, but can still punch similarly to the other rig with the right EQ adjustments, though being a a little more clean and glossy sounding than the more bitier F1/Berg AE rig, which sounded awesome for anything fingerstyle, BTW.
Pics and more to come. Literally just did the swap an hour ago, so still honeymooning. |

After playing the outdoor show with both rigs, I have to say that for my personal tone goals that I've found it!
The Ag500 GS112 stack was thick and how I'd like to describe as juicy, especially in comparison with the F1/Berg stack which sounds a little more dry, but punchy as heck. But the AG rig gave just the right amount of punch while still delivering the thicker support frequencies that sit really well in the mix. I found the deep and bright switches surprisingly useful for the R&B slap tunes, like Maxwell's Sumthin Sumthin.
As luck would have it, if you can call it luck, the bass player from the band after us (a reggae band) thought that all the sound was provided so he showed up without his rig. He asked if he could use mine which gave me the opportunity to sit out in the crowd and hear all the Aggie goodness. And it was one of the best bass sounds I've ever heard from the audience perspective. All the right amounts of everything with that clean, glossy, juicy thick tone whether fingerstyle or slap.
While the F1/Berg AE112 stack is phenomenal in its own right, the AG500 just fits the tone that I'm going for. And it's the first rig to put a smile on my face both in a solo setting and in a band context.
I'll find out how it fairs in a club setting this coming weekend.
I know it's still the honeymoon phase (it's only been 7 hours since I picked this up!), but I've never been as happy with my tone. This one is a keeper! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
