Oddball 400RB fuse problem / question

Sign in to disble this ad
The story begins when my fuseholder cap worked loose / fell out after a gig, taking the fuse with it.

I pulled one that seemed compatible out of another amp, put in the recommended 3GA 4A fuse, turned it on, and nothing. Amp wouldn't turn on.

I couldn't find a fuseholder cap at any of the local stores, so I called GK and they said I'd have to order the full fuseholder assembly (6 bucks) so I did.

Well, I soldered it in, plugged in a 3GA 4A fuse...still nothing. Now I'm totally perplexed.

Is it possible that it reqires a longer fuse to make a connection? I though a 3AG was a 3AG and the lenght would be the same.

Anything obvious that I might be missing? I've called GK twice but haven' heard back.

I can't believe I could have soldered it in incorrectly because it's really obvious where the short wire goes and where the long wire goes. I double checked the soldering and it's solid.

Thoughts? This tiny issue is driving me nuts.

Thanks!

Although it may seem simple and obvious, have you tried a continuity tester? You could see exactly where the signal cuts out.

The fuse should be 1.25" x 0.25"

If the replacement fuse holder was identical to the old one all you had to do was use the cap. No soldering required.
