ON/OFF switch doesn't work anymore.

The other day......I fried a speaker in my 2x15 cab......AND when I went to turn off the amp (Mesa M2000) it wouldn't?

I'm assuming the switch is bad? :idk:

The fuses look fine. The amp works perfectly.....just can't shut it off.

My real question: Gig tonight, got new speakers.....can I use the amp?

i really wouldn't use it at a gig or at all until its been given a once over by a qualified tech. If the switch isn't working that suggests a mains wire may be loose and the chassis could become live.

Well, I opened it up myself, and the wires are in place and soldered tightly?

I ordered a new switch last night.

Does the switch 'feel' wrong when you switch it? If so parts inside it have broken. I wouldn't use it because there is a possibility that the switch could overheat/melt/catch fire do to poor connection inside.

No. The switch feels like it should be working like normal.

So overall, even if it works properly otherwise....I shouldn't use it?

best way to check the switch is to unsolder everything from the switch and check it with a digital volt meter on the diode or continuety setting.

It's best to double check and play it safe with this kinda thing

It's somewhat risky to feed current through a broken switch. How about this: you are going to replace the switch. So at some point you will have to remove the wires from it. So do that now, and wire-nut the wires together. Ta-da.

I just ordered a new one. Should be able to swap it out easily.

I've never had a switch fail? :idk:

Good call.
I don't really have a backup gigging amp.......but I do have a SUNN 2000S I could use or a Traynor YBA-1.

Both great amps....but neither really get "my tone" like the M2000 does.

Hi.

I've used various El. appliances that have had faulty power switches for over three decades now. I do admit that I sometimes still use power tools with finicky switches, one just exploded on me the other day.

So the outcome has never been good.

If You're lucky, you'll just have a blackout when the switch gives up the last of the magic smoke. If You're not lucky, you'll have pyrotechnics at the show. For me it's been about 50/50, but for a gig, I'd never, ever risk it.

Just my 0.02€
Sam
