When using the CL I tend to put the master at full and control the volume from the gain. Any time I tried that with the 2Pro I got too much distortion . |

Here is a picture of me gigging with it. I'm the one singing with the post in my face. My blue beast is right behind me. |

As it stands, stock VR is a little woolier and breaks up nicely a little more at a nearly sane volume. The II with JJ pre/SED power tubes is a little cleaner and tighter bottom.
Any preference would be based on other less tangible factors. I had a II that I toured with and played hard... bordering on abused, for years and it never failed to rock. There's a "safety" or "trust" with that one that the VR hasn't earned yet... not that I've had problems with the VR but I've read a few testemonials of early or even out of the box failures (I'm sure those occured when the II's were new though). The VR looks cooler... and always gets "ooh"s.
sorry for the "stream of thought" rant! I don't have a strong preference one way or the other. I would have been very happy to just have the II... but as it goes, often when you buy a used tube amp, you gotta take it to the shop immediately. While mine was there (for a waaaay too long time) my wife bought me the VR... the "better" part of "for better or worse". |

I know what you mean. I've never had an issue with my II whereas my 2 year old Marshall VBA400 had a solder joint fail to the AC fuse holder in the middle of a show. Makes me a little uncertain about it's reliability in the future.
We had back-to-back shows at different venues and my cool wife said "What are you going to do? Go to Guitar Center?" I thought about it for a minute and said no thanks. The venue has a nice old black face SVT for a backline. |

And i am not one to judge but considering those ampeg cabs are indeed ampeg and they do look sexy, I'd say you should get a number... but maybe a negative number? who knows.

Seeing your cabs made me laugh as it sparked the memory of their stupidity.
My main gigging head is an SVT-CL. I have also owned countless Ampeg items. I even stated I played "Ampeg" rather than "bass" on my band's first album. Count me in. |

How would a bass sound comign out of those 4x12's, i know they are designed for guitar, but woudl it be much different than a 4x12 made for bass?
