When Fender reissued the BMRI, I saw one very soon after and I asked about buying the cab/speakers, etc through the parts department and was told that there was no chance- "Too new" is what I was told. Fortunately, I knew someone at another Fender dealer and he got them for me. The Eminence speakers were the ones Fender was using at the time and they sound good.

I play some bass through it but not at high levels, just for practice and until I get a real bass rig. I didn't own a bass when I bought it and at the time, there were no "experts" blessing different makes and models or amps, tubes, etc. Matched pairs or quads of tubes didn't exist, unless by chance or someone just wanting them to be closer than random selection would allow. Aspen Pittman hadn't written his books or started Groove Tubes and most amp makers still made tube amps before just about abandoning them for solid state. For that matter, I had a '55 Bassman when I bought this one and got it from someone I worked with at a music store. Nobody there knew the model and most of them had been in bands or the music business long enough that I would have thought they would know that one was a Bassman- it had been stripped of its tweed and later, finished with Danish Oil. It sounded great but I didn't know much about getting great sounds, so when I found this one and after reading that they had made them with four inputs and a Middle control, I thought I'd like to have that. Stupidly, I decided that I didn't need two amps and since they weren't the least bit valuable in '79, I got what I paid for the '55- a cool 75 bucks. DOH! At least I sold it to my old roommate and he got to enjoy it for a long time.

It sounds good as a bass amp, but amazing as a guitar amp. Obviously, bass amplification was the original intention but I wonder if they had just given up on making these for bass players by the time 1957 or 1958 rolled around.

I wish I had more money when I paid for the cab, speakers and parts- the store had a Cream or Brown Fender amp- I don't remember if it was a VibroVerb (I think it was) or what, but I couldn't afford that AND what I bought. A friend was on the road crew for the Violent Femmes around that time and their road manager did a tour with Los Lobos. When they came to MKE, David Hidalgo asked my friend if the music stores had any decent old amps, so I told him about it when he called. I wonder if he still has it.

Ha! Nice vid. I just went out of town today to try out the new Bassman 100T, and part of my noodling while playing through it was Love Cats. I also always appreciate gratuitous use of the word "fu*K", so well done.

Hi!
I just bought a Fender Bassman 300. Can I join? I don`t have any pics at the moment but I bought it off of Big Fat Dynamo and he posted a pic a few pages back.
Should I take his place in the list? Or put me at the end and move every one down one spot? Either way is fine with me!

thanks. i found the bass in a pawn shop for £30 including hardcase but the whole thing was fooked so i talked em to £25 and then just went from there. the neck feels lovely. its dead fat..... the amount of times ive said "fat" today could only mean 2 things.

1. its on my word of the day calender
2. i too am worried about the rising obesity issues.

I have this 1967 made 50 Watt Bassman Head in my possession for more than 15 years.
I only use it as a bedroom amp since its way underpowered for stage volumes, it's heavy, more delicate compared to solid state amps when carried from one place to another and obviously it has a vintage value. I love its tone.

I also had its Original 2x12 Cab But for some other reasons it doesn't exist anymore

Notice the back of the amp by the way. It has a very effective "LINE OUT" modification so that I can use it's pure preamp sound for either recording or for amplifying with a more powerful amp. I had that mode done again 15 years ago by a local amp technician. It only required drilling some holes, a resistor and a capacitor and of course some cables and a 1/4 jack.

Still works of course by the way. Over the years it lost some clarity and sometimes it's power stage makes some hissing noises but no problem exists when only its preamp stage is used. I mean its preamp stage is still unbelievably quiet for either recording or amplification. But of course (I believe) I loose some authentic real "tube" sound when I only use its preamp.

Never changed any of its tubes by the way. 1 of the power tubes is still RCA.
