I'm thinking of doing the separate mid-box now, and the x-over advice you have there seems right in line with this idea. The separate box will continue to be useful if I cahnge the big cab later...

That's a good idea!

I'm going to use my old wood rack-box my grandfather built for me, years ago:

Should make a fine little box for that fEARful Headcase idea. And I can put cables and stuff in it...

Just thought I'd post this up for anyone wishing to hear what the HyDrive HX-115's sound like.

A guitarist friend of mine sometimes calls me to lay down bass on some of his original stuff. The basic rhythm tracks on this were recorded live in his practice/recording room at his place. Myself on bass, my Brother Ron on drums, and my guitarist friend Randy doing the rhythm and leads. The leads and vocals were added in later.

The amp I used was his Acoustic B600 (not my favorite) pushing two of the Hartke HX-115's w/ tweeters off. Bass is my 08 Fender P USA standard strung w/LaBella deep talkin flats. IMO the tune except for the vocals has kind of an 80's metal vibe so I wanted to try and get a real deep boomy tone. No DI was used and no close micing of the cabs. What you hear is the room and drum mics picking up the bass. You can really hear the bottom on those HYDrive 15's

Have a listen
Keep Low

Pompano Beach huh I was in So Cal during the eighties so my guess is this scene was pretty similar. In fact my nose is tingling just thinking back about it. Lol

Discovered tonight that ALL of my instruments (bass, tenor guitar, and electric mandolin) sound great through my new Hartke Kickback 12 bass amp.
It's the shaping control that works the magic.
This is a very welcome surprise!
What a great amp.

I have to say, that due greatly to the input I found here on TalkBass and in this thread, I'm now the proud owner of a new LH500. I finally got to plug this beast into my single 18 last night with my 5 string bass, and I have been blown away.

I have had issues with the tone of this particular bass for years now so I had sidelined it. It sounded fantastic last night. I have a couple of other basses that had sounded good before, so I look forward to hooking them up soon too.

Thanks for all of the most valuable input here. The explanations of the tone stack and the durability of this unit were the absolute selling points. I'm ready for some 5 string therapy now...

I used to own a 3500 head & a couple of 4x10 cabs (one w/ alum drivers & one w/out) & I thought it was good stuff; I know there are snobs out there that will disagree, but I rocked plenty of clubs w/ them...

I'm still very much enamored with the used Kickback 12 I picked-up about a month ago. What a great amp! Based on the serial number, mine was built in 2001, and I noticed that it was made in the US.

Are all Hartke amps still built in the US? If not, where are they built, and are any models still built in the US?

Thanks.

Hey Guys,
I just ordered a Hydrive 112. Santa was pretty generous with those gift certificates! I really really wanted a 410xl but since I'm not gigging it seemed like overkill for the bedroom! Plus the 4ohm/8 ohm switching plus the light weight made more sense to me. I can't wait to try it out with my GK 400RBIV! I'll keep you posted.

Hi TBers.

Number, if ya please. GAS yielded an LH1000 w/ VX 410 & 115.

Looking for a comprehensive 12AX7 replacement discussion re: the LH1000 if someone could kindly point me in the right direction. Searched but results were mostly spotty sidebars.

Thanks!

Hope this pic posts, 1st try. Sorry if it's blurry.

I don't recall seeing anything about tube rolling an LH1000.

With only a Volume control (as opposed to Gain and Master Volume), I'm not sure how different the amp would sound from one 12AX7 to another.

The volume is actually the master volume. The gain is pre set.

I thought about trying a couple of other preamp tubes, but the Sovtec that's in there sounds good, and since you really can't crank the amp into overdrive, I didn't see the point.

I suppose if you put another preamp in front of the LH you could get it to break up, and then use the volume to turn it down.

Makes sense. I like it clean anyway... I was just wondering if anyone had experimented and found another to be oh-so warm or some other intriguing adjective. Thanks! I'll open it up and get the sovtek model# so I can have a spare on hand.
