Looking for a comprehensive 12AX7 replacement discussion re: the LH1000 if someone could kindly point me in the right direction. Searched but results were mostly spotty sidebars.
Thanks!

I love their sound and love their tube preamp. I HATE their noisy fans. Larry, got any comment on that?
I gotta downsize...leaning towards a micro but curious about the 2500. One thing I don't want is another noisy fan.

SHORT VERSION:
Have LH1000 + VX410 + VX115. Want more. 2 more VXs or swap for 2 HyDrives? Until then could I do daisy-chained VX on one side and my 4 ohm Peavey ?1820 on the other?
Thanks.

(Post edited for brevity to remove TMI) | Yes. In parallel mode each side is 4 ohm stable. Actually, both sides are 2 ohm stable per larry hartke himself!

I just sent off an order for a Hartke XL 2x10 cab and in a few weeks I'll order a second one for a mini rig of doom. They will be powered by my GK Backline 600 head for now until I decide which micro head I want. Super stoked! =)

Post a pic of it with your GK when it arrives and that number is yours!

| | | | Comparisons Has anybody compared the HA3500 vs. HA5500?
Also, any comparisons with the HA5500 vs the LH500 or LH1000?
I picked up the 5500 because it has compression and more eq control, but after finding that it sound great with little to no EQ'ing, I'm wondering if I should get the LH500 or LH1000 instead. Still have a couple of weeks left on my return policy.
Your feedback is appreciated.

I put my preamp in the closet and my EQ is basically at "zero" for this amp (0,8,2) and it has a great tone. I read a lot of reviews and did a lot of research between the 3500 and the LH500 and I can't say that I regret a thing. It's a great amp.

Your feedback is appreciated. | I've used a HA3500 and I own an LH500. They have a very different tone. The 3500/5500 is tighter and probably more solid state sounding. Not in a bad way though. It's actually one of my favorite amps. I don't like the "tube" channel on it, but that might actually sound more like the LH series.
I was going to get a 5500 but since I had been using a BK Butler Blue Tube in front of my amp, I decided to try the LH500.
The LH500 is rounder sounding, and has a warmer tube vibe. But it's still very clear and hi-fi. The EQ seems like it would be limiting, but it's really not.
It also has a built in limiter, but I stopped using it because I didn't like the way it was squashing the tone, and it has no controls. Plus I have an old MXR AC Limiter pedal.

I'm not totally sold on the class D powered amps either. So I figured the HA series were tried and true road warriors that I wouldn't have to worry about. The quest for better tone continues to haunt me though and I would like something with a little more warmth AND proven reliability. Love the sound of Eden amps, but they seem to have reliability issues.

Love the sound of Eden amps, but they seem to have reliability issues. | I just leave the limiter off. On the LH the volume control is master volume. So once you have it up a bit you are pushing the power amp section more, and the limiter kicks in. It works fine until you really push the amp, but I just stopped using it. I don't miss it, and as I said, if I want to use a limiter I have a pedal. Since I got the LH500 I have't been using my limiter at all.
The LH has a nice hefty toriodial power transformer since it's not a Class D power amp.
This has been my favorite amp so far, and I have used a GK-800RB, Mesa 400+ and Trace Elliott in recent years. I like the Mesa, but it's too heavy, and this is louder.
I have mine mounted in a case, and so far have had zero problems with it. I don't play out with this Seismic cab. I just stacked them up for the photo.

I have had an HA3500 for over 10 years and I really like it. It sounds great and hasn't given me a lick of trouble. I find the compressor to be a nice feature. I turn it up just a little for slapping stuff and it rounds things off nicely - just a bit, not too extreme. There is an indicator light for it and I turn it up so it flickers only a little.
I have found 350W to be about right for me and the bands I've been in. None have been very loud and my ears are usually not ringing after a gig, which is nice. If I were in a really loud band I would be inclined to get the 5500. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
