F1, gotta love the weight/Power ratio!!! | Wanna tell me anything and everything you have to say re the 810?? I'm highly interested in them but nobody carries them to try and nobody on here ever comments on threads about them. :/ |

I liked it, and got it for a steal ($500 on CL), but at the time I fell prey to tube amp G.A.S., and flipped 180 degrees into a MIA Ampeg Fridge 8x10. Comparing the two, I'd describe the MarkBass as "softer" in comparison. The density of the Ampeg build and design sounds "sharp". They both are sealed designs, but there are only very subtle sound differences, but at nearly half the weight and a fraction of the spacial size, you kinda gotta weigh your options. Obvious pun intended.
In closing, this is my purely subjective opinion: If you are going to rock a stadium, do it with raw, heavy, all tube glory!!! But if you want to carry your rig into a medium/small venue in your back pack, and want a crisp, hi-fi tone... go MarkBass!!! Hands down!

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it. Build pics here if you want to see the guts of the thing: DIY Ampeg Build, sort of...
I had a lot of fun building it with my son. Now I'm having as much fun gigging the thing for the past year...

I forgot I'm on this list. Still using the MB SD800 and picked up a NY121. Usually play the SD800 through a Dr. Bass 3 way and a Schroeder 2x12. |

The speakers have neo mags and you all know what the LMII weighs. The oak is on the heavier side, but all in it's 64 pounds, or almost 30 less than an SVT head...

Ampeg SVT-410HLF = 85lbs (31lbs less)
Ampeg SVT-610HLF = 110lbs (46lbs less)
Ampeg SVT-810E = 140lbs (76lbs less)
Amazing... what are your specs on the cab?

Amazing... what are your specs on the cab? | I have no idea, I'm not skilled on that stuff. The 2x10 top half is a copy of a Bergantino cab. The 1x15 bottom half is a copy of a Carvin cab with slightly different venting. When I saw those two cabs had the same dimensions the idea for making my own combo hit me. I did some research on bracing and realized I wouldn't need any extra with the way I was building it (the two halves are divided inside with a piece of the plywood). I also did some research on damping and decided to go with a memory foam matress topper with an egg crate face on one side and flat on the other. All sides but the face are covered with it. All I know is the thing is rock solid and has no resonent frequencies. It really does sound good, very tight response. To be honest with you, I got real lucky in the build. I never expected it to turn out that good.

Vic, may I please get a number?
I scored a refurb, good as new CMD 102P at my GC for 750.00 this past Sunday I have only been able to thump on it at the store and my house (for a little bit lol) but I love this thing! I simply could NOT pass up a chance for one of these combos in perfect condition at 750!!!
This is going to be my 'small/medium' solution, and my main amp for jamming with my current group of guys.
I also am the proud owner of a GK700RBII and Avatar 2x12 neo (8 ohm), which are in the below pics as my funky-colored, green/black/orange Rig of Doom.  I love the versatility of this setup I have now;
102P by itself
102P + Avatar
GK + Avatar
GK running the 102P (wMB amp off) + Avatar
No, I haven't yet plugged-up the Avatar to the 102P..that just wouldn't be cool in my house LOL. But I bet it will sound incredible.
Most likely though I'll be using the Markbass on it's own more often than anything else...but the other cab and amp aren't goin anywhere
PLEASE excuse my crap pictures! My wife is the photographer in the house, but her and her Canon Rebel were unavailable when I had this stuff altogether, but she'll shoot it for me later.
