Ohm Decision

Ok so I am no electrician but I know enough to understand the concept of resistance in bass cabinets. I just bought a GK Fusion 550 and am planning on getting the GK Neo 410 cab, but I don't know if I should get the 8 or 4 ohm. I never plan on adding a second cab so I don't need the 8 ohm for that reason. 350 watts should be enough power with the 8 ohm but I would like to get the full 550 with the 4 ohm. Is there a reason not to get the 4 ohm??

The 4ohm may or may not handle 550w.

The cab is rated at 800 watts.

You can get the 4 ohm, but it won't be appreciably louder than an 8 ohm.

That's the thing. 800w is the melting point. 350w is so close to the likely cone breakup point of both 4 and 8 ohm versions that the extra volume would be tiny.

No - get the 8Ω cabinet. The difference in actual be volume, even with the increase in power from the amp, will not be that significant.

The resale on the 8 ohm will be better.

Go one better and get two 8ohm 2x10 you can stack vertically.

The Fusion 550 will put out 836 watts sustained burst at 4 ohms (Bass Gear Mag tests), I would be concerned pumping that much power into 410's. In either a 410 or two 210 config. Go with the 8 ohm cab!

At least with the vertical configuration you can hear impending doom.
