Got a TNT 115S 4 ohm. Is it OK to replace it with an 8 ohm speaker? Uses is at home only - practice

If the TNT is a combo, then it's amp will be 4 ohm. Installing a 8 ohm speaker will resulting in the speaker receiving less power. It should make the amp run longer and cooler. I'm not sure If I articulated that right, can someone else explain it?

Yes it's safe. You'll get less power/volume but will tax the amp less. Where you're using it for practice at home you should be fine.

Hi.

^+1, it'll be safe.

An additional bonus is that if You install a parallell jack onto the back panel when you install the 8Ohm speaker, you can use a 8Ohm extension speaker and still be within' the amps abilities.

Regards
Sam

I had an older TNT and replaced the Scorpion with a JBL D130 that was 16 ohms. I played in a country Band and I still had plenty of power. If you go to an 8 ohm speaker you'll loose 3 Db however if the new 8 ohm speaker is more sensitive by 3Db then you'll have the same perceived volume and the amp will be happier.

The other side of the coin is that the new speaker might not be very happy in your old cabinet. Check the science before you buy.

+1 It will be safe, but the cab might not be tuned correctly for the new speaker. Taking things like the xmax and frequency response into consideration. But that will be a nice experiement
