OK to stand my Avatar 210 on end? Due to an extremely small stage footprint and 10 players, it has been recommended that I stand my Avatar 210 cab on its side (recessed speaker handles on top & bottom); because it is ported along the bottom, I'm wondering if this would cause a significance change of tone. Anyone else play their cab vertically? |
I have 2- 8 ohm Avatar 2x10 cabs. Depending on the size of the room I use either one or both of the cabs and always turn them vertically. When using both, I stack vertically with the slot ports on the same side. |
I did it for years. The only change is a little better audibility from the top speaker being closer to your ears. Highly recommended. |
There is a thread that deals with vertical stacking of identical cabs. I believe it discusses the physics of phase cancelation... |
It depends which end. :D Actually, you can stand it on either end. I do it all the time. |
I stand mine on end all the time with zero issues. |
You will get better midrange dispersion by standing it on its side. |
As you can see from my avatar I never stack mine on their sides :D |
I have used my two B210 Delta's like that for years. So I'm supporting what the other people on the thread are saying. I have rarely needed to use both cabinets but I love how my rig sounds with both cabinets stacked vertically. Very defined and they are more audible to the rest of the band at lower volumes. It helps keep the stage volume down so the sound guys like it too. |
Vertically is the only way to stack a 210 IMHO, unless it's one of thise diagonally mounted 210's, and then it doesn't matter so much. |
Yep...and it's also okay to store your stuff on the back porch exposed to the elements. ![]() Riis |

It may seem that you lose some low end when the cabs are vertical, you don't, it's that you can now hear your mid/highs better with the speakers up closer to your ears along with the lows. In the horizontal the mid/high content is blowing past your knees. |
I do that with the SWR 2X10 at work. I don't notice any significant difference. |
Yes |
Great advice. I gigged last night with the cab on end and it worked out perfectly! The PF500 looks great atop the smaller surface as well. |

I drive my two with either my Ampeg PF-500 head or my G.K. MB-500 head..... With a 4 ohm load (to my ears anyway) the PF-500 opens up. |
