I have a early 70's Acoustic 140 on the way at this moment.
Anyone out there use this amp or just love them acoustics?
The seller had it sent to a professional tech. There was a power fluctuation problem and some output distortion, all apparently fixed by fixing some solder joints. Cleaned pots switches jacks etc...
all solder points checked/fixed.
And cosmetically this thing looked really good.
Seeing it just came from a tech who if he did what he said, this amp should be fixed up like new. And there was nothing major to my knowledge fixed. I think the most major was the new 3 prong cord. I couldnt pass it up, especially since its already had the $ put in to make it shine
So did DOOM do good??

Acoustic 140

I played through one for 20 years, from the mid 70's to the mid-nineties. Great amp: loud (for 120 watts, I recall), simple and reliable. I only had to repair it once around 1980. I built my own head case and stood it on its side next to a 402 bottom... thought that would protect the electronics, though it never seemed to make any difference (avoided a lot of spilled substances though).

When I have a minute, I know there's one or two old Chicago blues Youtubes w/the rig and my '63 Jazz in the mid-70's (can't really see it but you can hear it) and the sound is pretty good. If I can fnd it I'll post the link.

By today's standards I recall it as a pretty "bright" head, and it was quite a sensation (Acoustic) when it first showed up in the era of tube bass amps... and I was thrilled at the time. I immediately parked my Ampeg and lost more than half the weight. Later, I began to use an MXR 10-band EQ in front of it that allowed me to add some of the lows I felt it missed.

It was still working fine in the mid-nineties when I sold it. I wonder where it is today? Enjoy your new baby!

I used both the 140 and 150b, through a 2X15 cab. Sounded great, I ended up with a 450 through the same 2X15 cab..... again .... sounded great. With the right speaker cab you should sound great too......

Ac

Here's one of those ancient and funky videos. You can't hear it very well most of the time, and I'm only visible on the right (or at least my bass is) at the very beginning and end, but that's the Acoustic combo (new to me then, though a few years old) at work.

BTW, that's a '63 Jazz that had been butchered w/2 P-pickups in '74, but played great. I still have that bass today, though it now sports its original gear instead.

Both I and the bass are a little easier to see and hear in this one.

Enjoy!

The guitarist in my band owns a 140 and i use it at his practice space when i don't feel like lugging my SVT over. We play it through an older ampeg 4/10. I think it sounds great. Full sound, breaks up a little bit too. One of the best things about it is how lightweight it is... Then i guess compared to a SVT just about everything is.

Thanks. I just discovered those vids one day. Eddie Taylor was one of the greats, Sunnyland Slim too. Sorry you can't hear the 140 better, but rest assured it rocked the house many nights back in Chicago in the '70's!

Enjoy, and don't be afraid to use the bass control like I always was .

I had an Acoustic 150 series 4 x 12 guitar amp that I bought in 1971. I never had any problems with it, but I never liked the way it sounded. The cabinet was built well and it sounded okay, but solid-state technology of the day tried harder for reliability than sound quality.
I played in a band with a guy that used two Acoustic 360s and he absolutely loved them. As a matter of fact, he'd love to buy them back again.
