Old amp, some problems

Sign in to disble this ad
Well I first have to say that i have a peavey 400 series musician head going to a peavey 412 cab with 210 watts and have some minor problems. When I play the open E it sounds like a chorus'y buzz, only with the E though. Ive put paper in the nut to no avail. what should my settings be to get a nice clean bassy sound?

Secondly, my speakers sometimes pop and while playing and its constantly sounding bad and like somethings loose in there and shaking. its from the late 70s i believe so are the speakers worn out?

I got this rig for 200 all together and its my first big rig compared to practice amps.

See if the noise is there with another bass. If so, it's probably bad speakers.

If this is a guitar 412 it may not have the right speakers in the first place. It might be cheepest just to locate a good bass-only cab(410 or 215).
