Ya, the GoldenGlo series, Jon. Never played one but those in the Portaflex club who have them speak pretty highly of them.

The GoldenGlo series were guitar amps only, IIRC, and had copper colored control panels, grillcloth and wacky "level" meters thrown in for good measure. The SS Portaflexes had backlit control panels, and would get hot enough to fry an egg on.

Jut looked it up in the Ampeg book, and you're not only right about that, but the GoldenGlo's were tube amps, so I botched it all the way around Sorry bout that...

BTW, Jess Oliver said the same thing about those SS Portaflex heads. He wanted to add more heat sinking, but Everett Hull wouldn't let him. Still, I do know folks who are happy with them.

I have a 1967 BT-15. I use the cab now with my B-15, and the head with my main rig. Cranked up these things rock, and using my A/B switch I got it sounding damn close to my B-15. Super cool rig there.

What Ampeg book do you have?
Can you share title/author/link?
Thanks.

Ampeg: The Story Behind The Sound by Gregg Hopkins and Bill Moore. Only takes you up to the late 90's, but it's a super-fascinating read that demonstrates how many times Ampeg came thisclose to shutting down permanently along the way. The road to amp-building superstardom is a rocky one, apparently.
