old Peavey 4X12" cabinet

A friend just gave me an old unloaded Peavey 412 cab- the 40 inch tall type seperated into two chambers each ported with a full width horn-shaped slot. As it's in near mint condition, I loaded it with four 8 ohm speakers I scrounged up and it sounds pretty good. My questions are : 1) was this supposed to be a bass guitar cab? 2) what would be some good bass speakers to put in it? 3)how could it compare to a typical 410, 610 or 810. I have only used single 15" , 2x15" , and 2x10" ; I can't afford neo and I don't mind the weight as I am going to use it with my Traynor YBA1A or Ampeg V4B. Thanks in advance for any bassists that have used such a beast for relaying your experience or recommendations.

I picked up one of these because I've always wanted a 4x12. If I ever scrounge up enough dough, I'm going to put in some Beta 12's from Eminence. I used mine with my V4B at a gig, and it was nice. Really good low-mids, which is what I go for. I don't know if it would be considered a true bass cab, but it is ported, and it is pretty deep, so it seems to work for me.

I had one of those beasts, and wish I still had it. It's a great cab, especially if you change speakers.

Oh man, I love the look of that cab. It would look great with my current cab. It probably weighs more than me though
