One man's "warm" is another man's "mush"...

Happy 4th everyone! I have an Ashdown EVO ii 500 combo which has always sounded distorted. Some people call it "warm" but I just don't get it. I also have a Carvin R600 Red Line combo series 2 "cyclops" (the one with the 12AX7) that is crystal clear and clean sounding. I purchased the ashdown only after the carvin went into protective mode once which I found out later was my fault (hooked up an extension cab which dropped the ohms down to 2 ohms) I have always loved the sound of the carvin and except for the one time, it has never given me a problem gigging pretty much every weekend. Is it desirable to have an overdrivin sound to you? It just seems like the ashdown is mushy and I noticed that they discontinued it. BTW I'm in a country/southern rock type outfit. Thinking about getting a BX500 and running it through the ashdown's speakers. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated!

ive heard the bx500 is really clean, i love the overdriven sound of my 400rb, that thing sounds great dimed i blew my cab doing that though. If i get a bx500 i may just get a vt bass pedal for it.

Yea some people like an overdriven sound but I've always loved a really clean sound. On the other hand I also have a Fender BXR300C which is "squeaky" clean, just a little too clean! I was just kinda wondering if my ashdown might have a problem or if it is just the "nature" of the ashdown. I'll probably get the BX500 but I hope that carvin has finally worked all the "bugs" out.

I prefer a "quick" response with a growl (i.e., not totally clean, but not "warm"), thus my addiction to G-K.

GK RB1001II is my idea of the cleanest sounding amp. I play in a classic country/country rock band and my head of choice is the Orange Tiny Terror.
