only 1 Gain Input working - Peavey Mk VIII

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,
I'm currently reading through the stickys (the Learning Amp Repair section), but I wanted to throw a description of the problem and a question out there:

I have an older (probably mid 90's) Peavey Mark VIII head (600W at 2 Ohms, 350W @ 4 Ohms). It was working fine until I noticed it farting a bit more than usual (and it seemed to have lower output levels). I run 2 cabs off it - a TVX210 & BX115-BW (both are 4 Ohm cabs).

While trying to isolate the problem, I noticed that only 1 Gain Input (I think only the Low Gain) worked, the other was completely silent - no hiss, no noise.

I've since unplugged it, set it aside and am using a Peavey Pro500 head in its place. I was curious to know if losing one channel like that is an indicator of something terribly wrong or not.

Question: Does anyone have any experience with one Input channel going out and is it worth sending off to get fixed?

I've checked around my area, and no one seems to want to touch Peavey gear, so I may be sending it to Meridian, MS

I'll keep reading, thanks.

It's probably just a broken solder connection at the input jack.

If you send it in, the repair will be inexpensive. The tech will go through it and make sure everything is right.

Weird. Any decent tech should be able to fix that problem right quick. The Peavey factory service department was always a joy to work with back when I was doing shop work.
