Open headphones

I've been reading headphone threads here and most of them seem to be about closed headphones. I don't want to cancel outside noise. I want to plug headphones into an amp and still be able to hear my phone ring, etc.

Any suggestions for open earphones?

Budget? Size?

For full-sized cans, Grados are good for guitar, but not necessarily bass. Beyerdynamics makes some good one with a pretty good bass response, but not really my cup of tea.

For smaller ones on a budget, I'd say it's definitely Sennheiser PX-100 or PortaPro.

Closed headphones dont mean that they cancel noise actively. Noise Cancelling headphones have an active circuit that listens to outside noise and then reduces it. Closed headphones are simply a closed design.. thats all.
I have some Grado headphones that sound great for $60ish but arent too comfy.
AKG and Sennheiser both have some rather comfy models that are priced right.

I used to work for a rotten, awful, deceitful, over priced snake oil audio company that makes noise cancelling headphones for about 5 times what theyre worth. They also make tiny paper speakers from china that they sell for a grand or so. lmao

Sorry for not including the price. I'm willing to go up to $160. They are primarily for listening to bass.

BTW, I've worn closed headphones that are not noise canceling and they cut out too much noise. Also, I have a set of Sennheiser PX 100, and I like the way they let in outside noise. But these are more for mp3 players. I'm looking for regular headphones for the amp.

head-fi.org is a good place to start. Grados are a pretty good open phone. 80i is about $100.00

I like closed better, but everyone to their own.

If you like bass, try the Shure SRH 750dj(closed) Right in your price range. You won't get the bass in an open that you can get in a closed in that price range (IMO)

Good luck

You plug your PX-100s into your amp with an adapter??? Can they handle that much output?

+1

Don't rule out closed, and remember inexpensive models with enhanced 'bass' are often overrated.
