Opinion 2x12 vs 2x10

I'm old and tired of hauling around heavy amps and cabs. Sold my Ampeg cabs today. I have a new GB Shuttle 6.0-12T combo to support the acoustic gigs that I'm doing so much of lately. I'm considering adding another cab to support my country band gigs, and was thinking the matching 1x12 STL-12T would fit the bill. giving me 2x12 and 600w at 4 ohm.

But now I'm looking at the 2x10 STL-210T cab for just $100 more. My thinking is that the 2x10 would handle the country stuff on its own and in a pinch I could also use the 12" in the combo (giving me all 600w at 4 ohm). All these cabs are 8 ohm, btw.

Any thoughts on whether the 2x10 will sound OK on it's own (I've been using an Ampeg 4x10 and never had to push it), and whether the combined 1x12 and 2x10 will sound good ... I hate to mix speaker sizes, but my 1x15 and 4x10 Ampegs usually played well together at dance hall volumes.

Even better is that someone will tell me the 1x12 will cut the mustard on its own ... but I ain't counting on it ...

Just looking for some food for thought ... thanks!

Test them both out at a shop first if you can. Then run them together and let your ears do the checking. With some manufacturers, their cabs within the same line are voiced very similarly while others vary greatly. I can't comment on those cabs tone. I doubt you'd dislike it. It's just that mixing those could be be anywhere from not important to quite wrong from an engineering standpoint and can potentially have negative effects on tone and performance.

Yes, I know that, of course, and I'd welcome the chance to audition them. There isn't a single Genz Benz dealer listed in CT!

Took the Shuttle 6.0 -12T combo to a country band gig tonight. Big hall, probably 100x60 or more. It had no trouble getting out enough volume and punch (but the keyboard player was absent). I think it might work just fine on its own, without an extension. That would be a GOOD thing!
