Opinions – Epifani PS112 Cab + GK MB200 head

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all:

Currently Im using a Ashdown Mag 300 1*15 Combo for the last 5 years. Very HAPPY with the overall sound, no regrets at all. It can handle like 90% of my Gigs. For bigger venues I add the 2*10 cab (also ashdown)

The main factor I want to move to another setup is PORTABILITY. I live on a 4th floor with no elevator. Ashdown combo is 68 lbs (even that its heavy, its easy to carry due to the dimensions). But for the last 2 years I’ve been giggin like 2-4 per month (or more) plus practices. Having some knee problems recently and the future looks like we will still gigging continuosly

Looking for a Portable setup, for practices and smaller venues. Budget is also a factor. I did some search on TB and the PS112 + MB200 sounds like a good option.

Any opinions on that setup?

That setup is around $650,,,, any other recommendations on that price range?

Tks

I doubt many have that setup. I have 2 PS112's though. I love the cabs. For that head, why not get a GK Neo112. It's lighter @ 30lbs. I just happen to have 2 for sale if you're interested. $275 shipped each. I'm almost sure I saw a MB200 for sale here as well for around $200 or so. Save yourself a lot of money.

I have tried the mb500 (big brother to the mb200) with a ps112 and it sounded REALLY good. Likely the mb200 sounds just as good but with less power. Personally I'd go with the mb500 though... its not that much bigger, has more options and more power.

Those ps112 cabs do sound good, but they are 37LBS and you can go lighter. If you can get a 30LB cab it would be lighter. There are a few 30LB 112s around such as the epi UL112 series 1.

Carvin BX500 on top of a GK 210MBE. Light with tons of headroom for expansion for just a little over $650

Tks BASSIST,

Yes Im aware the weight of the Epifani is 37 lbs,,, like I said my current Combo is 68 lbs,,, so for me 37 lbs is an upgrade

The other Cab I was considering in the same price range and its lighter is the Schroeder Mini12 without tweeter) $435 and 30 lbs

In my experience you compromise tone with the schroeders. If you like a large mid-bump and a very tight low-end you might dig it. In that case you should check out the schro 15L.

I tried the gk mbe 210 and 115 mbe, both were okay, but there wasnt much "wow" factor in them.

However, lately I have been using what I consider super high quality gear so perhaps the comparisons aren't fair, since my stuff is quite a bit more expensive.

Instead of the Schroeder Mini12 one option for you is the markbass cmd121p combo or markbass jeff berlin signature combo. With the 112 you might need an extension, but they both sound good and schlep pretty easy.
