Opinions on CRATE BT100 AMP COMBO?

Any of you guys have this? Is it a decent amp for general purpose playing? Just looking for a reasonably priced practice/monitor amp to get started with.

Crate seems to have discontinued these?

I used to have a small Crate 40W combo. I left it out for oversize trash day with some landscape debris and my kid's old bunk bed. The bunk bed got picked up by scavengers.

They left the Crate...

I am probably one of the few people here who actually like Crates and have/had owned a bunch of them. I don't know why everyone puts Crates down so much. People say they are on the lower tier of equipment but they are not bad amps. I currently have 4 Crate amps, 2 bass and 2 guitar. My first one was bought in 1988, I still own it. This was a B20 20w Bass amp but I eventually blew the speaker since I was always cranking it to 10 since it wasn't enough power, plus age of the speaker didn't help. That's the only one I had issues with. The other Bass amp is a B10XL 10w that was a practice amp around 18 years old still works fine. I've been running my drum machine thru it lately. I also have a GT80 80w Crate Guitar amp that's around 18 years old that still kicks butt and I have been complimented on its sound several times. All three of these were bought new by me. The last is a BV120 100w amp head with a 4x10 cabinet that was all around the world with the guitarist from Biohazard. I got it from Billy when I helped him pack his NJ studio when he was relocating to Cali. Its a little beat up from travel but it still works awesome.

I also just watched some concert with ZZ Top on TV and Billy Gibbins uses Crates. Other guys like Sammy Hagar, Bo Diddley, CC Deville, Al Jourgensen and Joe Walsh also use Crate.

Those BT100 amps are fine for playing at home or small gigs. Eventually you will want to buy something a level up but you should be fine with the Crate for a while.

Good luck with it if you do get it.
